    Sticky: 2.0 MPi

I believe there was a tax issue and the Italian police saved themselves a great deal of money having the 2 litre MPI rather than the 2.5 litre TDI, not withstanding the development costs of putting the MPI in the Defender.

SEPERATING BRAKE CALIPERS - WHY IS THIS A NO NO??

When I did mine three years ago I had to separate the calliper halves to get the pistons out. I cleaned the parts, put in stainless steel pistons and new seals and they have been fine. No trouble at all. The only issue I know about is getting the correct O ring seals.

    Disco 1 bleed brakes

I think the Discovery 1 can be difficult to get a good result. Sometimes I have put the system under pressure, using a pressure bleed system, and then have an assistant push the brake peddle up and down on my sayso while I open and close each bleed valve in the old fashioned way. Using the two...

    D1 300 tdi g/box out

Make sure you grease the folk where it sits on the ball ended support. I think a lack of grease during the factory assembly was part of the problem.

    Overheating, Defender 110.

It is possible that the impeller has come off the water pump, so the water is not circulating.

    D1 300 tdi g/box out

When I changed the clutch on a D1 I supported the gearbox on a trolly made from thick ply and four strong casters, put some long studding in two of the bell house to engine holes, and pulled it back. Just enough room to manage, and the studs help pull the box back in to place and keep it...

    Death wobble on a 300tdi

Yes, I agree with Dippypud, it is likely to be slack swivel bearings, or the bottom swivel bearing has collapsed.

    Any D1 owners here?

Yes 300TDI auto. Not quite daily use as I do not go out every day.

    Disco 1 ~1000rpm throttle deadspot/kangarooing, Discovery 300tdi auto

The throttle postion sensor is mounted on the throttle pedal bracket where it fits on the footwell. A bit difficult to reach. A cable also goes from the pedel to the gearbox to give the kick down feature. The tps has a metal wiper that passes over a track to vary the electical resistance, and...

    Which assurance company?

North West. About 300€ for a Discovery 1. In my experience no French insurance company is very good, but CA seems one of the better ones.

    Which assurance company?

I use Credit Agricole. Seem alright, and no others could beat their price. I have not made a serious claim yet though!

    2-Stroke oil in yer diesel?

In my view it is only of benefit to older engines, but I do think the TDI 200/300 engine runs better and is quieter with some TSO in the tank.

    Petrol in Deisel tank!

One litre in 75? I doubt if you will notice any problem, the proportion of petrol to diesel is too small to cause problems.. I did some thing similar with the Discovery 300TDI and had no problem.

    Temporary oil trial?

It may well be the clutch that is rattling when not in gear with the engine running. Does it go away when the clutch pedel is pressed?

    Disco 1 300tdi won’t start

When I removed the EDC from mine I used a refurbished FIP from Bosch and Bosch injectors. Replacing old the old parts with new, if they are good quality, and retiming it properly will go a long way to overcoming any power loss. I have not noticed any loss on mine and it is now using less fuel...
