Hi all

So, fitted new clutch, bearing etc a year ago and still have the gearbox rattle people talk about which is quite noticeable and annoying. My box is on ATF and ashcrofts told me to put MTF94 in and that should cure it, but that's gonna cost prob over £30 just to try it and hope it works and see if my box likes it but I have some 75W/90 I can chuck in to try and see if it shuts it up and gears are OK.
Will this be OK to try or not???

Many thanks

Towsey

The syncromesh mechanisms in the R380 (if that's what you're talking about) don't work well with thicker oils, which is why MTF94 is recommended. Some people say that the (more expensive) Difflock Evolution oils make a difference and give you a smoother running, quieter box. I tried them once, but couldn't tell the difference so went back to generic MTF94.

OK cheers, I was only thinking of starting her up cos I'd know straight away then if it is that get some MTF94
So what viscosity/specs etc is mtf94

Cheers

Found some things saying mtf94 is about equivalent to 75w80 and that's what I've been offered as an alternative?
I'm just sick of this rattle and everyone looking when I'm sat at traffic lights!

Are there any oil gurus on here?

Cheers

It may well be the clutch that is rattling when not in gear with the engine running. Does it go away when the clutch pedel is pressed?

Yes goes when clutch pressed and most keep saying it’s release bearing (also new) but spoke to ashcrofts after all mechanic mates say yes it’s box ya can hear rattling and they say it’s real common after new clutch and to put mtf94 in but I hoped it would have settled after a year

Cheers
