    Death wobble on a 300tdi

Yes, I agree with Dippypud, it is likely to be slack swivel bearings, or the bottom swivel bearing has collapsed.

    Any D1 owners here?

Yes 300TDI auto. Not quite daily use as I do not go out every day.

    Disco 1 ~1000rpm throttle deadspot/kangarooing, Discovery 300tdi auto

The throttle postion sensor is mounted on the throttle pedal bracket where it fits on the footwell. A bit difficult to reach. A cable also goes from the pedel to the gearbox to give the kick down feature. The tps has a metal wiper that passes over a track to vary the electical resistance, and...

    Which assurance company?

North West. About 300€ for a Discovery 1. In my experience no French insurance company is very good, but CA seems one of the better ones.

    Which assurance company?

I use Credit Agricole. Seem alright, and no others could beat their price. I have not made a serious claim yet though!

    2-Stroke oil in yer diesel?

In my view it is only of benefit to older engines, but I do think the TDI 200/300 engine runs better and is quieter with some TSO in the tank.

    Petrol in Deisel tank!

One litre in 75? I doubt if you will notice any problem, the proportion of petrol to diesel is too small to cause problems.. I did some thing similar with the Discovery 300TDI and had no problem.

    Temporary oil trial?

It may well be the clutch that is rattling when not in gear with the engine running. Does it go away when the clutch pedel is pressed?

    Disco 1 300tdi won’t start

When I removed the EDC from mine I used a refurbished FIP from Bosch and Bosch injectors. Replacing old the old parts with new, if they are good quality, and retiming it properly will go a long way to overcoming any power loss. I have not noticed any loss on mine and it is now using less fuel...

    1996 V8 discovery 1 (big blue)

When I did mine I fixed the front vertical panel, the one with the hole for the brake pipe, with close spaced 6mm nuts and boltsinstead of welding it, so it could be removed easily. This converted the job of changing the steering box from very very difficult to just difficult. It has now been...

    radius arm bolts

Paddock have, they tell me, just opened a European warehouse to serve the EU. Would that be a source of suitable bolts at a reasonable price?

Disco 2 Some chassis swap questions

i agree that you can not galvanise a used chassis as you can not get it clean enough inside. Some galvanisers will not do it because of the muck that can get out into their bath. When the bare chassis is read to fit give it a good clean and treat it inside with one of the treatments such as...

i really dont know what to do !!

Allowing people to turn their pension pot into spendable cash is one of the worst things a government has done. The state pension is not enough to live on comfortably. You will need your cash when you can not work and earn anymore.

    300tdi EDC

As it is EDC it is quite likely to be the throttle potentiometer. As you press the throttle a contact arm inside moves over an electrical track, sending an electircal signal to the EDC about how far to open the fuel supply. As the track wears the contact arm looses contact and for an instant...

300TDi cambelt change and fuel pump timing questions

In my experience the hardest part is getting the bolt out of the end of the crackshaft. You may need to think about how you will hold the pulley while you undo the bolt as it is very tight. I think a tool to hold the pulley/crankshatf is still available.

Series 11a need to know if it has been scrapped

You do need to be a bit careful with the DVLA vehicle enquiry site. It shows our Discovery as untaxed and not sorned, with big red warnings. What it does not say is that the vehicle was exported years ago, and is alive and well in mainland Europe. Just because the vehicle does not show does not...

    Discovery Owners Club

I was a member for a while, but did not continue. Part of the problem I thought is that the D1 is very different to, say, a D3 or D4 and their owners have different needs and views. Alright for the social side perhaps, but not much use for technical or historical stuff.

    Disco 1 Diesel pump question

Is it an auto with EDC? They make that sound. If it hesitates some times it may be the throtle position sensor.

    METAL DRILL BITS???

Almost since the start of the industrial revolution there has been a continuing movement to take the skill out of the man and put it in the tool. Once upon a time an engineer could take basic tools and materials and make things. Nowadays a "skilled man" knows how to operate a particular machine...
