I am a bit obsessed at the moment with rear props and diff, but just had the exact same problem, took the car out of 4 wheel drive by removing the prop & diff, car drives perfect with no knocking noises whatsoever, so back the the garage in the morning for a new diff - and another hefty...

Just had the exact same problem - could be the rear prop shaft or diff, mine was both!:mad:

If you go onto ebay and search for "landrover freelander handbook", there are quite a few on there for around £5.00 + p&P

Found out the problem, back diff box gone

Its a Serengetti SE 1.8, 52 reg

What else can go wrong???? I bought a Freelander 52 plate 6 months ago and have spent £3600 trying to put it right, the best one - the IRD unit &propshaft fell out - love the freelander, but my first experience is not a good one.
