Thanks to all who took the time to respond, much appreciated.

If you do have the handbook, and wouldn’t mind sharing it, that would be great, thanks!

Fantastic, thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Great, thanks for the advice!

I did, thanks for the advice though, I’ll take a look at the others and if they’re as tough, I’ll invest in a puller. In hindsight, three hours was probably a bit of hyperbole!

Ha ha, yep, don’t worry, everything I’m doing is going to be fully checked by a qualified mechanic with tonnes of LR experience. I’m just taking a first crack before handing it over to the experts. It has no MOT at the moment so will need to go through that before I start using it too.

Hi, just wondering what this black coating/covering on the chassis? Looks like it’s been there for a while. In some places it’s sticky/greasy in others, dry and cracked. It covers the chassis and is also on the bulkhead and in the engine cavity.
Does it need to be removed before I recoat it...

After a three hour battle, I managed to get the drum off in my quest to overhaul the front brakes on my S3 SWB.
I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube on how to do this, but they don’t have the central hub (? - not sure what it’s actually called!) shown below.
Do I need to remove this before...

Very helpful, thanks Bob!

Hi all,
What are your views on what I should do with this (see photo below)?
Is it something a normal garage would be able to fix (I lack the tools/knowhow)?
Or would it be necessary to use a Land Rover specialist like Gumtree 4x4 (my nearest one)?
Or is it a case of sourcing a new...

Thanks guys.
Rob, where do I find out what rim width I have? Apologies for the stupid question, I’m new to all this!
I’m not fussed about ride height, it’s a SWB. The roads I’m going to be driving it on are also only 30-40mph limit anyway so the additional speed isn’t a priority.

Hi all,
I’ve a Series 3 that I’m (slowly) restoring. One of the jobs on my list is the purchase of 4 new tyres (plus spare) and I was hoping to get some advice on the type I should be looking for.
In terms of usage, I won’t be doing any off-roading and probably only about 2-3k miles a year...

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Apologies for the slow reply, been in Africa with no internet.

Hi all,
I recently bought myself this lovely 1973 Series III 88" on eBay. It's a petrol 4 cylinder. Got a decent price for it and, whilst it needs some work, is in relatively good condition, mechanically speaking. I'm a total novice to working on cars, but have been reading up Land Rover...
