Cured sticking hydraulic tappet with ease!

Another question is when the oil light should go out? When cold (overnight or more than 8 hours) or warm goes out in under 2 seconds but left for 3-4 hours then start up it takes 4 to 5 seconds for the light to go out which is bad.

Ok car fully warmed no ticking purring like a kitten. Give it a couple of blips on the throttle and was surprised that the tap, tap noise came straight back. Car was stationary but obviously the vibration caused by revving maybe moves the oil pick up pipe?

Just a thought but I found a site which reckons a loose oil pick up pipe can cause this. I recently had a new sump gasket put on by an independent LR specialist I was hoping they would have checked this anyway, will find out in the morning again.

Ok the tappet noise is intermittent coming from just the oil fill side and does not seem to be temperature related. The mechanic reckons its down to age and nothing to worry about. Question is if i leave it will it do any harm? and how many miles before a serpentine V8 needs new camshafts?

    Warning facelift owners!!!!

The guy selling the lights has to be caught he even uses the same image on each listing! I am sure there is an easy way to get his contact details off ebay. I wonder what he would do if a lot of angry men in discoverys turned up at his house?

Load of oil by nearside front tyre

The stuff should protect everything much better if water does get in but its a very good point, must be a nightmare to get rid of the stuff if you have do a strip down.

There is some sticky fluid you can buy from Lucas for the swivels, I think its just called Hub oil its syruppy but stops and prevents leaks and seems to lubricate better than the normal oil. I think it operates better at higher temps incase u go off roading. Just got the link off ebay but this...

I am having a cat back stainless exhaust fitted on wednesday so will find out then as it does sound like an exhaust leak but the wynns treatment did work for a while thats why i think its a tappet. I just been out there and started the engine from cold put the scope on and the ticking is there...

I think the 3.9 serpentine engine has the oil pump on the crankshaft which gives better oil pressure than the older V8's so was hoping its not pressure related. I do not get a flickering oil pressure light and no horrible noises apart from this tapping (sounds like ticking with scope). When I...

Mine ticks\taps when warm as well as cold just worried it might be oil pressure related. But it does sound like just 1 tappet, stethoscope seems to confirm that. If i had low oil pressure would not both camshafts have noisy tappets? and what other symptoms would I have. I think all vehicles...

Cured sticking hydraulic tappet with ease!

I live near Marham in Norfolk and it did get down to minus 13 last winter but generally we are the same temp as you in Kent. With this in mind do you think putting a 0w-40 oil in will make any difference to the tick. I got a feeling its a worn rocker arm? The tick is more noticeable when warm.

Used a stethoscope this morning and the noise is coming from the valve cover about 6 inches back towards the engine from the oil filler neck. Sounds more like a tick than a tap. Any ideas what this might be?

So can you use 0w-40 in the serpentine 3.9 V* then?

^ Will do in the morning when its light, the funny thing is the wynn's treatment did make it go away after just a few minutes of idling and i went back and started the car 3 more times the sound had gone, it was not till i drove it did the noise come back.
