Lasted just a month with not much use. This time stripped all pipes off from tank to pump and filter and found that the fuel tank pipes had been fitted the wrong way round so the return was going to the lift pump and was full of crap from bottom of tank. The proper pipe to lift pump has a gauze...

Just for any future looks at this thread - The lift pump was a series 2a / 3 pump AC Delco could only find a britpart one to replace but has solved the problem. Will see how long it lasts. Was going to get a service kit for the original pump but the linkages were all well worn.

Cheers all Will try and get replacement diaphragm kit then sounds like the older pumps are better quality than replacements these days.

Looking to get new lift pump but looks like my 90 has a series 3 lift pump? Is this the case its a 1986 ex military 90. When I search for a pump by engine / year the pump looks different. Can i fit a newer type pump or would it be best to fit a series 3 pump? The problem I have is its keeps...

Yes good point will do that cheers. Want to take pump off before ordering one just to make sure I the right replacement.

Pump seized and snapped belt. Does anyone know if driving it without the pump or any fluid in it will cause any further damage or strain on the power steering box? Any recommendations on replacement pumps just had look on greedbay about £140 for aftermarket pump. Cheers Rob

Yes worth a check i suppose will give them a blast through with airline, did fit new ones to axles and gearboxes and extended up to the snorkel a couple of years ago so could have crud in by now. Cheers

The last ones I got were the harder plastic ones and did seem to be a really good fit, water still got in somehow though. I did find with these though they were single use as on removal they split. The metal series ones turned up today so will give them a go, just waiting for the waterproof...

Thanks James Just spotted a transfer box on ebay from a 91 ex MOD defender (20D 1.667 ratio) mine is an 86 ex MOD would this fit mine being an older vehicle? Will try and see if the spigot moves with a spanner Cheers

Got the front bearing out no problem as suggested. The bearing though does not look too bad but the small gears on the shaft that came out are burred at the end so I suspect this is what was making the noise under deceleration. It also feels that the difflock is jammed nothing seems to move in...

No oil leak and not a great deal of play but enough to see it when I was checking for play in the UJ's. Maybe its something worse than the end bearings then or I have noticed it before leaking has started (hopefully) The noise was still present in neutral with engine off and rolling downhill...
