Thank you, I'll get one in ready.

2006 112bhp TD4: Is there a dryer in the aircon system? There is something connected to pipes going up behind the RHS headlamp but I cannot see what it is and no manual diagrams show it. One internet site states that it only guarantees compressors if the dryer is replaced at the same time which...

Just seen this thread, I used a tap and flat spanner and just cleared enough to get bolts in. One, however, did not comply so it has a long, thinner bolt right through.

Thank you, I'm surprised I didn't notice before, it's certainly softer than the parallel hose.

£420 inclusive for the gearbox. All the 7 various fitted from the same recon. firm have been good apparently so just parted with the money for a good specimen of the original freelander.

I could also try some cable spiral binding, bit like a stent for humans!

The steering has always been a little heavy but recently one of the fluid hoses has gone strangely flat:Should I worry, it doesn't feel flabby or anything?

I'll reply to me own last post....It wasn't the usual suspects but the gearbox proper with a bearing gone which I was shown. Back together with a recon (guaranteed), new clutch and flywheel. Strangely quiet and no longer hard to select gears when hot, 'twas a pig before.
Having past experience...

No, that makes it more expensive.

I have a whine too from the front, worst at 55-60mph, which arrived quite rapidly. My usual service garage has had a stethoscope on it and said it was from the gearbox but I asked them to disconnect the propshaft to see if the noise stopped. I'm not entirely convinced a stethoscope test is...

The TD4 rotary coupler seems to have 4 pairs of flexible connections, possibly via printed circuits. One pair will be your driver's airbag, another pair the horn switches, leaving a pair for audio remote control (which I've never used) and the final pair for the cruise control (which may not be...

Report on Falken Landair AT after some years of use:
These show little wear and grip well in snow but, this summer with road surfaces being at egg-frying temperature, they become a little soft and I have to take it easy on bends to avoid too much lurch and difficult steering.

It's been "sucked" and dried, there was 90gms left but clearly not enough and, having omitted this wet spring to run it at all, it's working better than ever. Mea Culpa!
-
I am taking it to my usual service place, it's certainly not overfilled and they have a system to detect obvious leaks.

I have 2 decent cylinders of R134a refrigerant and what appears to be the correct adaptor &c but can't introduce anything into the a.c. system through the low pressure side. The compressor doesn't run now so suspect the refrigerant is empty. Shouldn't I be able to introduce enough coolant to...
