Friend filled the chassis of his Jag with old gear oil. Stopped it rusting but gave the bodyshop something of a surprise when they cut into it after someone rearended him. Big clean up job apparently...

If the car thinks it's open, it may just have something like a bit of cloth stuck in the catch. The cure for this is to crawl into the boot and put all your weight against the door, which should then spring open. If it's more serious then you may need to remove the lock from the inside. Too...

Wheel balancing is first step.
If that doesn't work, rotate each wheel with the spare - it could be a damaged tyre (assuming you've got a spare - if not it's time to get one!).
If that doesn't work assume a brake problem, possibly a warped disc. It is possible to warp a disc by keeping your...

Agreed Hippo.
When I got my first FL2 I did try to suggest splitting the Freelander section, since 1 and 2 are completely different cars. I was coming on here and finding nothing that was relevant to me. Since then the headings FR1 and FR2 have been introduced to each fred and that helps, but I...

Not quite as extreme (we paid quite a lot for those cars) but there is fun to be had closer to home. Freelander 2 Off Road day - Bala - Oct 2011 - YouTube
The Evoque was brand new and belonged to Land Rover - they only let it do about half the course!

Like I said this is a great forum, but at the moment it has very few posts about the Freely2. And the attitude of some members in the past has not been all that complimentary to our beloved hippo (no, not you, the car). Since I upgraded from the Disco to the FR2  I don't come here so often...

You may be able to solve it by replacing the reservoir and flushing, but yes it's a known fault on early models where swarf was left in the rack. TBH if that's the problem it's more than likely to have been fixed by now, so you are likely just to have the blocked filter problem already referred...

This is a great forum, but you might also have a look at freel2.com where you will find the sort of info you are looking for. eg Freel2.com - View topic - Buying A Used FL2
Despite what some people on here say, the FR2 is a fantastic car and you're unlikely to regret your purchase.
The models...

I'd be inclined to clean the MAF sensor. Seems to cure a lot of ills and apparently easy to do (although I never have).

Yes, sounds like turbo. EGR valve sticking can affect performance but shouldn't be that bad - wouldn't make it smoke.

I don't think so, but I've read that you can get a lot of info via the LR TOPIX site. I haven't done it but I think you can pay a small amount for a day's worth of downloads, then just download the lot.

Slightly off the original topic but it's worth knowing that the TomTom Start 60 is an excellent retrofit into the Satnav hole in the FR2 dash. Essentially, remove dash centre piece, remove cubby hole, glue in TomTom using double sided tape. Run a lead from spare fuse F5 to flying cigar lighter...

FL2 wheels will not fit FL1 and vice versa.

Heavy tint film on the windows and a curtain behind driver's seat? I think the real problem will be lack of insulation. When I converted my Sherpa years ago I panelled over the sides, floor and roof, squirted in foam, and then shag-piled the lot. Toasty!

Could be a damaged tyre. Check for unusual wear - tyres can go out of shape and produce the symptoms you describe. You could get someone to drive along behind you and check for visible wheel wobble.also
