The 1 in the picture is an earlier model, it has orange side repeaters. The head lights will be slightly different as well I believe. Can't tell which model it is but it looks like the wheels are 18"

This is a great forum, but you might also have a look at freel2.com where you will find the sort of info you are looking for. eg Freel2.com - View topic - Buying A Used FL2
Despite what some people on here say, the FR2 is a fantastic car and you're unlikely to regret your purchase.
The models vary from year to year, but generally speaking you have
basic model - early ones don't have Terrain Response
GS - has all the basics
XS - more trim
HSE - heated leather seats, satnav etc.

The top end models keep their value. Plenty of wheels on the market if you worry about such differences (note Freelander 1 wheels DO NOT fit). Usually supplied without a spare so worth checking if it's got one, but as said, plenty available. If no satnav there is a TomTom that fits perfectly in the dashboard space, so that's not a worry. If manual, check there is no clutch slip IN FIFTH AND SIXTH gears. Listen for transmission whine and if it's there don't buy.

Or stay ere with us.

Like I said this is a great forum, but at the moment it has very few posts about the Freely2. And the attitude of some members in the past has not been all that complimentary to our beloved hippo (no, not you, the car). Since I upgraded from the Disco to the FR2  I don't come here so often - let's face it, this forum is great for helping each other when things go wrong. Not really a problem I have much nowadays!
Oh, and the FR2 will do most things a Disco can do (except carry 7 people or tow an HGV).
Lots of us post on several forums - if they were all the same there'd be no point.;)

Have a look at Freely2Addiction, we will be more than happy to help you.

10 posts and every single one is about or mentions Feelme2Addiction :rolleyes:

I have no problem with other forums being mentioned partly because it can be helpful to the members here and partly because LZ is by far the best and is hardly going to be threatened by any other no matter what model of Land Rover.

However, a dim view is taken of ****-takers

Cut it out :suspicious:

Thanks for the help any advice before I buy would be great

I normaly change my car every 2-3 years but want to keep this FR2 for a long time if poss so want to get it right.

I would probably if price is ok go for the higher end FR2 with satnav etc

So they are 3 model FR2's
GS
XS
HSE

I hopefully will look for a 2011 or higher - Is there any siginificent change's between 2011/12/13?

Thanks in advance

I can see where yer coming from. Since starting me own freds oft in the tratter section I've made good progress in restoring/strengthening the friendship between the differing land rover vehicles. This seems to have had a knock on effect of reducing the **** taking we get in ere. There's nowt like getting yer own back. They actually seem to enjoy it. Not all members are bad, just some of them.

LZ is still a bit rough and ready but it's part of what makes the forum interesting. There's already a number of LR related forums out there. Some are dedicated to a particular vehicle, and others like this one cover all LR's. Freds like "whats this connector for" will always attract curling tong replies. It's part of the banter we have but I can see it from both sides. Not everyone appreciates it and some can't get past it.

I would agree there int much Freelander 2 stuff on ere compared to the Freelander 1. But there's certainly a good foundation of Freelander 2 stuff to work on and grow on this site. Freel2 has a lot more info but it was set-up as a deadicated forum and grew at a time when the Freelander 2 was new, therefore not covered on forums in detail at that particular time. This is starting to change as peeps on ere and other existing forums buy FL2's for themselves or within their family.

Building a forum is difficult. Attracting new members is even more difficult. Other the years LR forums have become quieter. The easy option is to try to pinch members from other forums. I've had pm's sent to me on ere within minutes of posting once on Freel2, making me aware of the new forum. Others have tried to tango forum members on ere to move to the new forum. Our members are free to join other forums and wonder where they like. If you have to go to such lengths of persuasion, then something is wrong.

New forums are nothing new. I've seen it happen and fail on more than one occasion. More often than not it's down to personal rifts between a certain few, who dream of pulling the rug when they create their own forum. It's not a solid base to build a forum on. The only outcome seems to be the loss of good internet friends. Friends I went oft road with. Friends I have now lost with no chance of finding them.

When the new site was first advertised on ere it had 58 members on the 8th of March. It was advertised openly on this forum. It now has 76 members (currently 25th of May) so that's an increase of 18 in 11 weeks.

Regarding Freelander 2 content on ere: this forum is way ahead of the new forum in terms of existing content and members who can answer questions. The simple solution would be to move here if growing the existing online Freelander 2 community outside of Freel2 is the real plan. We already have freds on the Freelander 2 and some who can answer the Freelander 2 questions. If you want to build something then building on this would be betterer than starting from scratch. But that all depends on what the real plan is. If it's to build a second Freelander 2 online following then helping to grow what we have on LZ Freelander 2 wise would be the way to go. If it's down the rifts on Freel2 and creating forums out of spite (which is often the case) then best of luck. I don't see a problem on Freel2 and don't see why people would want to choose to turn their back on a valuable online source of information.

It's not just about wanting the forum you participate in to be the best or outdo others. It's about the effort members put in to assist others and the wider forum as a community. Over time a forum becomes a home to regular posters and a heaven for those in need of help. My preference is here. I moved from lro as the Freelandering was too quiet over there and this site had more Freelandering activity. In the background they had their fair share of forum splits. It's far too difficult following more than 1 forum which is why I still view lro but not often.

Did you manage to download the catalogues in the links? They show the spec and different model options.

There's a:
Td4 s
Td4 gs
Td4 xs
Td4 hse
SD4 gs
SD4 xs
SD4 hse I think.

The SD4 is a bit more powerful than the TD4. The SD4 is auto gearbox only. The TD4 has auto and manual options. There's also an eD4 which is front wheel drive only. Biggest model updates were in 2010 when the SD4 came out. They seems to have minor changes every year which is typical of all manufacturers.

Edit: Ignore the other discussion in the background. Freds sometimes go oft topic on ere.

Agreed Hippo.
When I got my first FL2 I did try to suggest splitting the Freelander section, since 1 and 2 are completely different cars. I was coming on here and finding nothing that was relevant to me. Since then the headings FR1 and FR2 have been introduced to each fred and that helps, but I still see very little in the way of FR2 action here! I agree this is a great forum, and particularly useful for people with older cars where the experience of members (including me, I hope) can be very useful. I also like (usually) the banter.
I think the place I'm coming from though is that on the other forum I mentioned the OP's questions would be answered by a quick search, or by one of many members who have all this information in their heads. The downside of that forum is that 50% of members are mainly concerned with discussing which polish to use with which clay bar and how sparkly their wheels are - not something I've come across a lot here!

That seems to happen on forums with newer cars that are still under warranty or just out of it, as in the main they don't start to go wrong/break until they are older, like our beloved Freelander 1's. I'm a member of Briskoda, having had 2 Skoda's prior to my Freelander. Most of the posts for the first 3 years of the Yeti were the same, or what options to buy etc. now they are coming onto the s/h market some are wearing out parts etc, but for the most, they are a very reliable vehicle. Excellent even and deserve the good publicity they had. The main issue with them was ground clearance. (Now where have I heard that before  )
Whereas the posts about the Octavia, they are more like our Freelander, as they are getting older and parts wear out.

My favourite threads were always the ones about going off-road or the projects. There are two 1.8 tsi Yetis with big turbos, brakes and handling mods which will see off many very fast cars. Always fun reading about them.

But as Hippo said, it is hard to be on more than one forum. I spend most of my time here, as you can tell from my post count.
