ok peeps i know i'm stuffed but if i do keep hold till after chrimbo and do the job myself, altho at the moment i'm looking at it with a lump hammer , are there any clutches i should steer clear of , ie i know britpart has a bad rep , does that apply to their clutches ,ap , etc, if i can afford...

soft clutch pedal , no clutch action

ok had a look , plenty of fluid , have cracked the bleed valve open while pedal is pressed to recieve a dribble of fluid , i can hear something move inside the bellhousing when pedal is down so looks like a big job  i'm assuming its the clutch fork at this point or very directly related ...

    newbiee with questions

granted mine's a 200tdi but i see at least 160-170 miles to 30 quid & thats on short journeys , work & back , shopping , school run type affair , I reckon its definately a good start to do the box & transfer oils and see if that improves the gear change , it did on mine mind you its still a bit...

    Alternator water problem

yup mine too , i watch for the light to come on as i go thru the puddle , then a short squeal from the belt(unless the light stays on & then its from me)

    water proofing

it looks bloody daft but you could try the old marigold glove & small zip ties only problem would be that you would have to route 2 leads through each finger so a healthy blob of grease or silicone where they exit the fingertip before zip tieing closed to stop moisture ingress would be needed...

    knocking

on mine it turned out to be the rear door , i adjusted it inwards and also the brass wedge(not sure of the proper name) that sorted it out, i dare say TMHM & Sean are right but always worth a check.

    Jump start !!!!

well it may be , only thinking as it shows almost the same symptoms as my 200tdi it would be an ablsolute pig to start of a morning even with a jump pack but once it fired up was fine all day (fired up really well from my daughters car with jump leads) pretty much untill the next morning when it...

    Jump start !!!!

just a thought but just because the battery is new doesn't mean its a good one occasionally you do get dodgy new ones , i used to work for a national automotive shop & a motorfactors & both had a small percentage of returns so there is a reasonable chance it could be that , dont discount the obvious

    starting issues

well guys , thought i'd update , bit the bullet 3 days ago and thought i'd risk a new battery , that seems to have sorted it , the disco has started with no problems every time since fitting it . always like to see a happy ending:clap2:

    starting issues

Pretty sure now that the battery is not at fault , disconnected the earth on the battery last night and tried it this morning , fired straight up no problem so i can only assume the solonoid or something else is draining the battery when stood , that sound right to anyone else out there?

    starting issues

Cheers guys , i had a nasty suspicion that it may be a starter fault , did i read on here somewhere that the 200tdi & the 300tdi share the same starter ? is there a easy way to change it or do i need to split the exhaust manifold to access it.

    starting issues

ok folks , have waited till this morning to check , battery having stood overnight gives 12.80V , still reading ok on charging , tried the jumplead to earth , still turning reluctantly so thinking (hoping) its the battery as it was still reluctant to turn over at speed when the jumppack was...

    starting issues

ok folk , i thought this was the battery curling its toes or a alternator charging issue , the past few mornings i have had to use a jump pack to start the car , but from that point on its been fine , symptoms are that its slow to turn over some times and wont fire (mornings) had the battery on...
