I can't get no satisfaction baaybeee , yeh yeh yeh.

hi folks , was on wy way to work this am when 1/4 of a mile out i was going for third gear and lo & behold the pedal felt odd ( wrong amount of resistance ) and then no abilty to engage gear, coasted to the side & dropped in to second ,took off for home , stalled at a junction as i braked .
waited for a gap in traffic, put in second and bounced out on the starter which fired her up after 4 rotations. limped it home , so cant check untill morning for daft things like low fluid etc but any direct ways to find out which bits given up ie master cyl , slave , clutch arm etc is there an accessible flexi hose i can clamp to see if my pedal returns to isolate which end the problem is

Most likely failure is the clutch release fork pivot, which means a box out job.

You might be lucky though, it could be hydraulics.

Disco 2's are solid steel pipe, and I think Disco 1's are as well.

ok had a look , plenty of fluid , have cracked the bleed valve open while pedal is pressed to recieve a dribble of fluid , i can hear something move inside the bellhousing when pedal is down so looks like a big job
i'm assuming its the clutch fork at this point or very directly related , barstewards , thats me with no transport & i'm working right up to xmas so no time to fix it.

ok peeps i know i'm stuffed but if i do keep hold till after chrimbo and do the job myself, altho at the moment i'm looking at it with a lump hammer , are there any clutches i should steer clear of , ie i know britpart has a bad rep , does that apply to their clutches ,ap , etc, if i can afford to wait and fix i'll be looking at a reinforced clutch arm too, any issues.

Buy the best clutch you can afford, genuine Borg & Beck is about as good as it gets, but make sure you get what you are paying for, I bought some new U/J's the other week, supposed to be GKN, turned up in a plain white box with no name on.

Also, get that reinforced fork!

...and a new release bearing. A good clutch kit should include the lot.
