Yep I would agree with the slave being fubar.......happened on mine, the fluid underneath will have come from the bell housing.....unfortunately it's a gear box out job to replace.

Clicking or rasping noise from the injectors normally means one or more are faulty.....mine would do it, though I was able to rev the engine by blipping the throttle which would thow out a load of smoke and then clear it......for a while until one went totally fubar causing the engine to cut out...

Water in the boot......another thing to check is remove the rear door card and check the vapour barrier is intact and sealed all round........mine leaked after it went in to LR for a new rear window and they butchered the vapour barrier.

Whistling is normally due to a hole......feel,underneath the long inter cooler pipe where it touches the manifold screw.
Old pipes do tend to have a oily residual coating on them as if they have become slightly pourus.
One of the first jobs engine wise is to change your crankcase breather filter...
