Ive got four axle stands and im going to make doubly sure by using bricks too. Im doing it alone so maybe a bit of a struggle. Whats the best way to avoid damaging the bearing? I thought of using two axle stands to help lift it away without dropping one side of it.

Im going to remove my prop shaft ala mondo mode to see if it cures a noise from underneath. I need to buy a torx socket. What size are the torx bolts on the shaft?? Thanks in advance for any help. Go well.

I had exactly the same sound start yesterday, I initially thought wheel bearing or driveshaft - so today i decided to jack up the front and have a listen. Turned out that one of the dust covers behind the discs had bent at the bottom and was catching the disc. A bit of a bend back here and...

Just had a read.... I fancy having a bash myself actually when i have a free couple of days. Seen the gasket sets on fleabay with the uprated steel gaskets. £30 + £20 for the head bolts.

I have very little knowledge outside of changing filters and brakes etc. Roughly, how long should it take an experienced mechanic to replace a new head gasket on a sound engine??

Ive got three months warranty left on it. So maybe ill start to think about it closer to the time. Would changing the gasket reduce the chances of it blowing altogether or are there deeper lying issues that cause it to blow??

Having read all the various posts about the frequency of HG failiures on the K series engine I wonder if I should be concerned. My 2000 FL is coming up to 90,000 on the clock and has yet (touch wood) not had any HG problems. I am paranoid about it happenening so check regularly for any signs...

I have a full set of Pirelli Scorpions. Really quiet compared to the Goodyear and bridgestones i have had in the past.

I recently changed all four from Bridgestones to Pirelli Scorpians and the reduction is road noise was unbelievable. I paid £60 per tyre if i remember correctly.

Right. further to my earlier post... I have got the FL back from Landrover. The knocking problem was the dif mounts which have been replaced. But they couldnt find any problem that would cause it to cut out. I presume they have checked the filters, air intake etc... Im reasonably handy...

Luckily it still has 2 1/2 months left on its warrantly so its going into Landrover tomorrow and they can fix it at whatever cost. I'll try and pursuade them to replace the propshaft under the warranty. Fingers crossed that they will do before it totally goes (probably a day after the warranty...
