Hi,

Ther is a low knocking noise coming from the rear offside wheell when braking. The knocking can only be heard when I have slowed right down and almost stopped. It sounds like a piece of wire or a twig is caught on the wheel and scraping the wheell arch - I have checked and I cannot see anything - the gaitors are in good condition. The Freelander has done 28,000miles so I wouldn't suspect the CV or wheel bearings at this mileage.

Any clues.

I'd guess it *is* a CV, but before you go there... the drum might be out of round and hence 'grabbing' as you come to a halt (assuming light braking pressure).

Also, are you sure it's the OS/R - sounds often seem to come from where they're not!

Oh, and another thing - it could be a flat spot on your tyre!

Thanks for that info. Must say it does seem like the CV but it is the low mileage which made me doubt it. I will have your suggestions checked out.

Thanks.

Had this problem on a mondeo i owned, turned out to be a screw stuck in the tyre. might not be ur problem but worth checking your tyre. you neva know.

I had exactly the same sound start yesterday, I initially thought wheel bearing or driveshaft - so today i decided to jack up the front and have a listen.

Turned out that one of the dust covers behind the discs had bent at the bottom and was catching the disc. A bit of a bend back here and there and its sorted.
