    TD4.... negative battery lead connection

Took the punt and connected it to the top bolt of the starter motor. Something isn't right though. Turns over for a short time but wont start. Starter sounds very week. Assumig poor earth or dodgy battery I guess. Wondering if I have got the wiring right now. Battery was reading 12+v when I...

    TD4.... negative battery lead connection

Hi All. Feeling very stupid. Needed to replace the starter motor on my 04 Reg TD4 starter last Sunday. Rushed taking it out so I could take the old one and avoid the surcharge (and also compare before I took it away) . New one went in ok and didn't quite finish the job. just went outside today...

You know what, I thought I would be clever and find you another one nearer. But I've searched in every NZ car trader site I can find, and cannot find a single Freelander 1 for sale anywhere in New Zealand, let alone Canterbury. Are they that rare then? So now I'm thinking you might be serious if...

Aw shucks! Is that like the first line of support for all those noobs like me who need someone to tell them that they have stupidly not paid attention to the handbook, so you dont have to say it over and over? I can do that!:)

Its a lot easier if you know you are going to get good advice. Thanks again guys. I do actually really enjoy it, but its always against the clock and the worry of costs running wild. You lot have saved me I'm sure! Looking to fit the prop before next winter. Give me time to have it checked...

    transmission failure

All done! Took it for a 10 mile drive and not a rattle or whine. Really feels so much nippier and responsive but with no grating diff dragging it back I guess it is going to! THanks for all your support guys!

Thank you James. I'll go and have a try. Much appreciated, I was beginning to panic!

    transmission failure

I knew I would cock-up somewhere. I was mistaken when I thought I had pop-out the shafts from the diff when I released the hub members. (and I did have to undo the longitudinal struts to move the hub back enough for the shafts to clear the diff) What I had done is pulled the shaft out of the...

    Any South Essex guys?

You are right Alibro, the seals are still there. I think it will all depend on what I have managed to get hold of when the the time comes to put the diff in. I'm not going to hang around waiting for an ebay delivery, but if I can get them local then I will. Bit worried about starting with a...

    transmission failure

I'll go and have another look in a mo, but do you think they will be ok to reuse? Might have had a stroke of luck though. Found an ebay shop that works out of a farm a mile or two from me. They do Bearmach parts. I've messaged asking if I can pick up if I order online. Seals £9 for the pair...

    Any South Essex guys?

Hi I'm working on my hippo (diff) and want to buy mounts and oil seals. Got quoted £266 from Beadles and I know I can get the lot OEM for £25 on Amazon. There has to be something in between. The guys on the Freelander forum say there are some Essex guys on here who might know where I can get...

Blimey!.... been phoning around to get my hand on oil seals and mounts. Seen OEM on Amazon for around £20 for the set of mounts and £2 per seal, but not sure if I should buy cheap and most would not arrive until the end of next week. Don't want to take the diff off and then have to wait a week...

    transmission failure

Thanks guys I'm pretty sure the hub needs to be freed-up to get enough play to pull the shafts out. I'm pretty sure that there are no oil seals in the replacement dif. Not sure about the c-clip thing. I'm thinking I need to get some just in case, and they will probably be something autopart...

Just an update and a few questions if that is ok. We've had a granddaughter stay for best part of the week. I was hoping to be up and running by Saturday. I'm off to see another granddaughter in Bristol, but I'll have to talk swmbo into letting me use her car. Dont want to rush it. Got the car...
