    Series 3 Rear diff parts

Yes, so pull them through with another nut, basically? Tried that and it's hard work, but will keep persevering! Thanks.

    Series 3 Rear diff parts

Hi, all - any tips for getting the new bolts in?? They press in from behind (inside the axle casing) but they're a really tight fit to push through and not much space to weild a hammer at them. Warm the axle casing with a blow lamp??

Mine are definitely studs, I’ve had my head in the axle case and checked.

    Series 3 Rear diff parts

Hi, all, Does anyone know the part numbers for replacement studs & nuts for the rear rover-type diff? I've taken the diff off to repair a broken half-shaft and the nuts & bolts that attach the diff to the axle casing need replacing. I've got 561195 or 561196 for the studs?? How easy are they go...

    Series 3 Broken diff?

Would 1 broken H/S result in no drive to rear wheels? There is no resistance in the prop - in neutral it just spins on the hand.

    Series 3 Broken diff?

Hi, all, Driving home just now I felt a 'pop' and lost drive. The rear-prop shaft is turning but no drive to the rear wheels. I managed to get home in 4x4 using front-wheel drive. Are there any other possibilities I should explore/rule out before jumping and buying a new rear diff? Thanks.

    Series 3 Grinding my gears...

I mean that if I put the red hi/low lever in neutral then I can move through the gears but not if it's engaged in either hi or low range.

    Series 3 Grinding my gears...

Hi, all, It's virtually impossible to get my Series 3 into gear unless the transfer box is in neutral. It seems harder if the engine is running. If I can force it in then I get drive fine when I raise the clutch. It's hardest to get into reverse and the gears grind when I try. I first noticed...

    Series III questions

Series 3 Sweet 16, My Landy is fitted with free-wheeling hubs and the 4WD appears to work fine in both high and low range, so hopefully it's the mainshaft nut that needs tightening (preferred option!). Thanks, though, I will keep an eye out. I do make sure I turn off the FWHs and run it in 4x4...

    Series III questions

Hi. At the tender age of 25, I have recently bought my first Land Rover, a 1980 88" Series III, and have a few questions. These may be really silly questions but as an enthusiastic beginner, I would appreciate your collective help. - I have several Haynes manuals which tell you where to...

    Jacking under the diff.

I have also been advised to jack under the diff and this doesn't sit quite right with me either. However, jacking from the axles may make it more difficult to insert axle stands.
