Freelander 1 How to change 1.8 Inlet Manifold gasket

Thought I would do this write up for those who are not so keen to take on what seem to be 'big' jobs. A leaky inlet manifold gasket is a common problem and on a 1.8 could prove catastrophic if not dealt with. So after taking some advice from others on here I changed mine. It was easy, quick...

Freelander 1 Sump removal quick question

Cheers nodge. That's why I hate splitting downpipes too. Think I'll give that a try.

Freelander 1 Sump removal quick question

Thanks guys. I read the Haynes manual too but they often tell you the "correct" way. No torque wrench. Just be doing it by feel.

Freelander 1 Sump removal quick question

Going to fix the leaky sump in our 1.8 tomorrow. Can the sump be dropped without removing exhaust downpipe? What size socket do I need? Is it a Torx type socket? Cheers .

Freelander 1 1.8 Manifold gasket 'How to'

Would anyone like a 'How to' on replacing the manifold gasket on a 1.8?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Changed inlet manifold gasket. It had been leaking water since we bought it and found coolant stains around manifold. Very easy job! Only slight problem was lower bleed point was blocked with crud. But gave it a poke and it all bled up fine. Am I weird that I actually enjoy working on her? I'm...

    K series overheating please help

I love our 1.8. To be fair. Reading all the 'horror stories' on here puts me off buying a TD4 which everyone seems to rave about. But then you read about expensive repairs on them. At least the 1.8 is well within the capabilities of a keen DIY owner. And like Nodge says, just look after them...

John Craddock - poor service in 21st century

From Craddocks? 7 WEEKS? You could have made a set in that time!

John Craddock - poor service in 21st century

Oh I can guess. The thing is, I spent 17 years in parts trade and even back then (20 years ago) we could turn an order round inside a day. That was with a basic computer system, hand written despatch notes and hand packing. And we were turning over £1.5m a year so it wasn't a quiet place.

    Inlet manifold gasket change 1.8

Cheers folks. But looks like it will be another week before i get it done because John Cradoock's can't send out an order inside a week! Shop elsewhere in future I suppose. Should have looked at their reviews on facebook first!

John Craddock - poor service in 21st century

Need to get this off my chest... Ordered couple of gaskets from John Craddock's on Monday and just been told that they are only being sent out today! 4 days to process an order is **** poor these days. No apology, nothing. I appreciate the postal system can cause delays, but that's why I...

    Inlet manifold gasket change 1.8

Cheers guys. What jiggle valve are we talking about by the way? And how best to bleed the system?

Alternative to the fluid coupling (VCU)

I've been thinking.. which is always risky. But for the Tegralok to be beneficial (and ignoring financial benefits / defecits) we have to establish the following:- 1. Is the existing 4wd so inadequate that it cannot do it's job adequatley and efficiently off road? 2. Is there a substantial...
