A 65 amp alternator will take pretty much anything a 90 can throw at it. Before you start thinking of up grading, whip it off and get it load tested. May only be a matter of a couple of new brushes. pence compared to pounds!

Right, there is a simple test to try! Continuity tests are ok, but they can often lead you up the garden path as you are only testing the curcuit with millivolts. Disconnect the exciting lead from the alternator and earth it on the alternator body. If the battery light does not illuminate...
