Long story short.
Got new 90 back in November, insurance wanted the original immobiliser certificate not a photocopy, sent it,they never got it (so they say) so either they are bull****ting me or the royal mail have lost it.
Anyway am i fooked or what?
Do i have to fit a new immobiliser or can i get a new certificate for it?
Anybody else had simular **** happen to them?

yup i did!! car did have no immobiliser cert, so i got the garage i bought it from to write letter confirming the car had immobiliser fitted. problem solved!!!
yer bestest buddy slob

Lucky you old pal....
This was a private sale and not only that there was a code on the paperwork
Not sure what this code is for but what happens if say i want to change the battery,or charge it up and remove it,is this what the code is for?
Any how it dont matter cause i aint got the bloody code thanks to the bloody royal mail.

I had the same proplem with my old Golf. Take your 90 to a decent garage and get them to write a letter to your insurance comp' confirming the immob is fitted they excepted this in my case. worth asking the question first though!!

It's a good job i work nights and dont get to see the postman because the way i feel about the royal mail id let the bugger have it with one of my many shotguns....even though it's not his fault...make me feel better though.

wouldn't going to the post office and saying "you lost my thingy ,can you find it please," then they would say "oh! look here it is!! it had the wrong address on it and no return address either" make you feel even better???
you should use recorded or registered next time you send something valuable through tit post

Yep i know, and i would of but like a tit i asked the wife to post it.
Post office have asked me to put it in writing.

Take it down to an Alarm fitter at a garage and get them to test it and confirm it is a Thatcham Approved immobiliser, get a letter from them or even a new Cert. (Shouldn't cost too much) Ask the fitter about a reset code if thats what it was wrote on the paperwork. My insurance company were happy with a photocopy of the Cert. Tell them you'll fax it because of the delays around xmas with the post and that the fact the last one was lost in the post. (I bet they lost it at the insurance place! too many idiots work there for my liking, any vehicle older than 10 years does not exist or its a Discovery???)

I have decided to cut and run.Gonna swap my insurance company, they seem to much like the muppet show for my liking, and im just gonna insure it as a unimmobolised vehicle but leave the immobiliser fitted until i can afford a new one to be fitted.
There are just too many brick walls and my head is starting to hurt.
But i hope whoever lost it dies in a horrilble accident on xmas day....:)

Before you insure it as "A unimmobolised vehicle" get a couple of quotes. One with an immoboliser fitted and one without, could make a hell of a difference in the policy price! Never fun dealing with insurance companies, I do mine on-line with www.confused.com, they search loads for you. Give em a try

Just a point on this

I have fitted Alarms and immobilisers on vehicles for years now. I am really dissapointed by insurance companies. They are always claiming that you must have immobilisers fitted over the manufacturers original one. I have to say that you will not beat most factory fitted immobilisers.

I used to work for Audi in a consultant capacity and I must say that their immobilisers are fantastic. You cannot nick these vehicles without the keys...no way. Land rovers systems are coming up to spec pretty good too.

I see too many micky mouse companies that are apparently thatcham approved and their workmanship is crap, easily detectable and poorly done.

Sorry rant over.

Anyway the best immobiliser you can have for a land rover is a german shepard dog that is pretty hungry.

On an insurance note...I find elephant.co.uk pretty good.
