Hi I bit on the bullet & bought a used box & torque converter off ebay from jbs4x4 100% +ve feedback & lots of testimonials - total cost with fitting £850 - problem solved - so far so good! Fingers x'd.

Filter & oil were changed a year ago. The local L/R specialist I use advised against a further oil & filter change as they thought that would dislodge more muck.

Yesterday I moved my D2 about 100 yards then stopped & switched the engine off & removed the ignition key. There was a continuous loud buzzing coming from the direction of the gearbox which only stopped when the battery earth lead was removed. It recurred as soon as the bty lead was replaced...
