Will the idm and BCU from the second hand loom we have access to be of any use to the car if they are programmed to suit via Nanocom

Ok I have had a snap-on diagnostic machine on the car, the fault that it read was "96 ROADSPEED MISSING FAULT" Was hoping that I could get to the bottom of it with the Nanocom but maybe not. I am lost now

So am I correct in saying that if either of these have a problem the Nanocom unit will tell me which is faulty and I can then reprogram a new unit or used one if we can find one that is not faulty
