Ok number 1. thats normal, it is turbo hiss you can hear. i've had it on both my td5's it does happen on the 300tdi but you cant hear it over the engine clatter ! I would agree with mantamad re number 2. number 3 if you solve this let me know, as I occasionally have the same problem Derek
