My 2003 disco was the same ie lever stuck in un-locked position and high range (guessing the last owners didn't need a diff lock for the school run)
Had to get under it and free it all off at the transfer box
But even after freeing it off it needed adjusting because it would select the diff...

My Range Rover is petrol and my discovery was to so can't do the poll
But my wife's 330d bmw and my 320d bmw both have the cat/DPF removed and both have had there mots recently and both passed

I bought the top spec one that everyone would say avoid and it was a V8
I had a leak from both sunroofs but I spent a good week fixing it properly and never had a leak anymore

Mine done this when I bought it
On the two faster speeds it vibrated badly and made a noise
But it was just a bit for crap in the fan putting it out of balance
Just removed the fan took the crap out and put it back in
Job done

My dad told me about vinegar and how well it works as a rust remover
