Hi everyone, new to landrovers. Friend of mine has one and loves his, (300TDi 90).

I am after a Disco (2 pref, more luxuries and up to date imho). As usual, i've read all the horror stories regarding TD5 plastic dowells, but im sure like everything you hear 80% of the bad and 20%of the good?

Im sure there are many owners who havent had a issue, please assure me if you havent! :D

The disco i've found is 150k, full leather air con climate etc 7 seater. is the rear air suspension a issue at all does it go wrong much and can it be convereted to springs? apart from the light on the dash but ill just ignore that. It's a V reg and it £1900, from a dealer but it says p/x to clear which worries me a bit as i dont think by law they have to provide a warratny as such, but it does have to bit fit for purpose?

Maybe i'm just hearing horror stories, I'm just after a semi decent disco 2 really for some daily and winter fun, I Live in East Sussex if that helps, countryish.

Are there any issues i should be worried about really when looking for one, milage age etc? just look for one that has been maintained.

The one i am looking at does not have a tow bar, so i assume it's never twoed anything! surely that is a bonus?

Well it has survived until now so I suppose it will be OK, mine are metal as mine is 53 reg.

Check the paperwork and see if any engine work is listed.

Air suspension is OK, but keep an eye on the bags, but a new bag is cheaper than a spring kit. So if working look after it and it will last fine. I like filling the D2 up with heavy stuff starting it and watching the car relevel. Either a shopping trip or a trip to the tip.

Check the following, does ABS and TC work? If not could be a hub.

If it has ACE, are there any leaks? If so walk away or offer a lot less, if OK enjoy it. Repairs are possible if you know a good hydraulic specialist, if it had ACE but no longer, make sure it was removed or disabled properly.

Chassis - biggest issue is rust, have a good look around the chassis by the tank, if bad, walk away, or offer a pittance.

Sunroofs, do they leak, if so get them to repair or knock off a hundred pounds or so, a days work to fix not rushing.

Finally post of the Discovery section

As above
I bought the top spec one that everyone would say avoid and it was a V8

I had a leak from both sunroofs but I spent a good week fixing it properly and never had a leak anymore
The ABS light would come on sometimes but then go off so never fixed that
And that was it all good

The chassis rust is the biggest and most common problem with the D2

Dont ignore the light on the dash its an MOT failure, too expensive for a V plate with 150k on the clock with issues

Forget what the bits you can see look like, you need to get under it and check the chassis for rust issues and then check it again

The were built for towing, presume the towbar was removed and sold seperate
