Hi you lot.....
I'm still locked down and the car's still laid up. It's nice to see there's life on as usual here though!
-
RIP Wammers- his passing is a loss our community will feel for a long time, I'm sure.

For sure lubricant on all the gears but also change the darned potentiometers while you have the blend motors out. 9 times out of 10 it's those that give trouble anyways. the how to guide is here:-

I've done it and can confirm the...

Thanks for this man...... mine's not giving trouble- yet- but it's going to someday, and now I don't have a mechanic I'd trust to do the job anymore, it'll have to be DIY-ed.
There's this sort of dreaded inevitability about it all but this guide is going to help!
-
Sure.... you can do it with a bit of determination and gymnastics... but installing plugs on the leads helps. A lot.
The motors are pretty generic. I can't remember which they are now, exactly... but I think they're the same as those used in those Tamiya slot racers.
Anybody?
Either way...
-
Sure.... it doesn't HAVE to be the blend motors..... but you know.... it COULD also be.
Heh. Actually there's a page I remember where the guy tells you how to rebuild the blend motors.... and you can use JST plugs on the leads so that you can remove the individual blend motors without having to...

Book error on the HEVAC display. If it's the blend motors, that's a dashboard-out job, methinks.
-
Oh yeah... that'll definitely sort it. I think you'll be fine.
I have to say, that is one very clean looking car given that it's at least 13 years old. 46mpg, huh? Well at least you can say you're balancing out your carbon foootprint after years of running a DSE.
I do the same.... I ride a...

Oh yeah... that'll do it. I think you'll still need to give the wheel a darned good cleanup first though. Especially since it's black.
Easy to look after, sure...... but you don't know just how much muck is on there, especially if the car has been "pre loved".
Actually I'll shut up now. It...

Ah ok... we only got Golf Mk6 onwards here so you may be in the clear.
My take on your steering wheel remains the same though...... a darned good cleanup, shoe black and then leather care balm. It doesn't look as if its begun to develop pits in it so I don't think you need to go any further...
-
Whoops... you meant the leather restoration product. Your steering doesn't look too bad, actually. I'd be tempted to just clean it up with say Autoglym leather cleaner, some black shoe polish and once that's dried, to finish up with the Autoglym leather care balm thing.
Just be careful with...

They've got an AWFUL reputation for reliability out here... and for very expensive repairs, but that's because we only get DSG ones and insist on using them in crawling city traffic.
That one being a manual, I dunno. What model is it anyways?
-
Well I never got that far, unfortunately. For what it's worth, it seemed pretty darned solid when I was working on it. It COULD just be that whoever had them before didn't file them down so they slid easily within the rails. You CAN kinda sorta force them in, right out of the box... but it's a...
-
Yeesh.... just as I was about to go invest in one. Guess I'll wait a while longer.

Gave up trying to fix the sunroof with the ebay 3D printed parts. The tolerances are just too far out. Not only do they need filing down to fit in the sunroof rails and need a hole to be deepened to take one of the pins, the grooves are just too tight (impossible to file out to size, or at least...
