Thanks! Solved a little personal mystery for me! Thankfully the original bolts were just long enough to reuse with the diff guard as the ones supplied were obviously designed for the front diff as they were too short with the balancer in place.

Hi Folks, This might be a really stupid question, but I was fitting a rear diff guard to my D2 and there was this 'thing' bolted onto the nose of the diff and then a steel cable looped onto a fixing on the axle. Had a look in the workshop manual but couldn't see what it is - does anybody know...

I bought mine when it had 174k on the clock and so far so good. Gave it a complete fluids and filter change the day after I got it home and it's been fine, have had more issues with rot on the chassis than anything engine related.

Quick update... After a load of welding (thanks bigg), new track rod, new wheel hub and a steering box... Then some more welding at the mot station, daisy lives to fight another day. Full mot, no advisories, and no cash left in the bank. Big smile on my face tho. :)

Thanks for all the help. If there won't be any lasting damage then I might leave it as-is at the moment and get a trans specialist to look at it later in the year - dropping the box out is beyond my skills at the moment. :)
