    veg oil

IIRC you still have to register as a fuel producer with HMRC to claim the 2500 litres. Just paid 2.52 for 3l bottles from the big M round here. 80-some pence a litre is a much better option than the 108 at the pumps.

    Two questions

Its not just miles on the cambelt, its age too. I would change it if there is any doubt at all about when it was last done

    Landy for 17 year old??!!

At the risk of upsetting the applecart........ Occupants of a 3 year old corsa are likely to be much safer than occupants of a defender of similar cash value. Airbags, ABS, traction control, brake assist/distribution, crumple zones designed to modern standards all these make a car safe, not...

    M.O.T / corrosion

yes, yes, no. Pretty much as others have said. Finding a good test station that knows landys can be hard, but very worth it.

    is my 300 tdi lump a 2.5 turbo ?

Now me, I had my money on Turbo Diesel intercooled. What with there being the old non-chargecooled oilburners simply being TDs.

    Drivers door not opening???

If its the old spring problem, holding the lock button up whilst pulling the handle will allow the door to open. Or if outside, hold the key turned to the unlock position and try opening the door. My last D1, the button drop after unlocking was barely visible, but just enough. If you can get...

    Towing Confusion

Prison is a risk, but only when the charge levelled is the worst case scenario of causing death by dangerous driving. The poster I was quoting/responding to did mention serious accidents resulting in death/injury. Driving a combination that a person is not entitled to resulting in a fatal...

    Towing Confusion

I think the waters are being unintentionally muddied here. Firstly can you clarify your uncle's job? I wasnt aware DSA had instructors, just examiners. Guidelines mean nothing. You cannot be charged or convicted for breaching a guideline, only the law. The law states with a B+E...

    Towing Confusion

This would not be legal for a B holder without +E. A trailer with a MAM of 1750kg is going to be far more than the unladen weight of a vehcle with a MGVW of 1750kg. I use MAM/MGVW as they are the recognised terms used elsewhere for trailer weights and licence restrictions A 1500kg car with...

    Which Disco would you have?

According to the data I have, indeed the one badged 4.0 has more horsepower after 1999. Its not a difference most folk would notice, 185hp v 182hp. Its also having checked 3950cc for both engines, not the the 3954 I had in my head earlier. Buy a D1 that has history of lots of religiously...

    Freelander Front Tyre Wear

Motors with a viscous 4x4 system such as the freelander, older mondeos, cavaliers, etc do in my experience tend to eat through tyres rather rapidly, even when the suspension and steering setups are perfect. Screeching and "hopping" across the road on tight corners tend to lead me to think...

    TD4 - general comments?

No more so than other motors of similar age/use from other manufacturers I would have thought. Just about any car I plan on it needing clutches etc. by 10years/100k. Gaylanders could well be needing IRD/VCU replacements, a cost that can make some people think of buying a replacement motor. I...

    fuel shut off?????

Diesel I guess from an implication earlier. Personally, I wouldnt bother too much. A pro car thief will have it regardless if he wants it. A toe-rag who cant start it is likely not going to just wander away, hes gonna be mad and start destroying it in-situ, either by trying to start it, or...
