Bought a flywheel locking tool in the end and a hand (hammer actually) impact wrench designed especially for crank nuts . 3 blows and it was cracked , easy !

On the plus side it will allow me to do the oil pump bolt at the same time

Now , as the heads off I have the engine timed up ( crank locked with the bell housing tool ) will that be enough to hold it ?

as the owner or 2 (yes I know !) discovery TD5's I'm always busy . Doing the black autos head gasket and found this !!! Difficult job ? I can see the crank pulley and front engine casing need to come off and I believe the sump none of which fazes me apart from the crank pulley !! Any tips ?

Right , at local main dealer . The non return valve we have is I. Incomplete ! A genuine LR one is only £10.62 and will be here in the morning and his computer shows it fitting in this position :) Left inner .(closest to the back of the truck and nearest the fuel tank )

So I take it this is wrong ? I ask as I have a non return valve on the way for an early TD5 that hasn't got one !!!

Local LR specialist told me that because unburnt fuel can be smelt that rules the CPS out ? He claims its fuel related ( delivering fuel to the injectors but not at the correct pressure ) The YouTube videos confirm that too .

No ! They were part of the gasket kit ! I'm going to test the fuel pressure before I go any further . Should be here Thursday !

Yep checked continuity between injector plugs and Ecu , all ok . Just ordered a fuel pressure test gauge to check for 4bar to rule out pump and pressure regulator ( with guidance from the very good YouTube videos mentioned ) Will update once tested .

hi , just completed head gasket on my wife's TD5 / 1999 and it won't start ! Googled the life out of it and no help ! New injector seals , timing checked , primed umpteen times still no go . I can smell unburnt fuel and it NEARLY goes but not quite :( Will go on a SMALL sniff of brake cleaner...

Hi all , I have a td5 disco fitted with a webasto diesel burning pre heater :) It has a small electric pump fitted behind it which appears to have sprung a small coolant leak ! I haven't investigated properly yet but have priced the 2 pipes that fit on either side of it (£10 for both :o) however...

many thanks chaps BUT im a little confused as to why it's cold on the passenger side and not my side ! surley if it was low or out of gas both sides would be warm ? not doubting your advise but to me it doesn't make sense ! still local garage will do a vac test , re gas and an anti bac bomb...
