Hi Andy, I know it's an old thread now butI have the same issues with my 4.6. Did you ever get to the bottom of it? If so, what was the issue?
Cheers, Dave

Check the connections on the starter motor - a poor connection can cause these symptoms. It happened to me and according to the breakdown service, is not uncommon!

Hi, do you still have contact details of this chap? "Found a guy on Ebay who fixed the Satnav player in the boot,. "
-

It is very likely to be poor connection on one of the leads to the solenoid......

Sat Nav computer is u/s. Disconnect the plugs from the rear of the unit and radio volume should come back to normal!

Glad it worked for you, same happened with mine! No, don't think lens cleaner will do the job sadly and anyway when it was working the maps were well out of date and very slow to recalculate routes when driving. Tom Tom far better!

Disconnect your navigation unit in boot and you may well find your front speakers and volume levels come back to life!
-
B
Mine also has LPG fittedand it is possible to change coilpacks without removing anything else though as Wammers says, clearance is tight!

If you have the built in SatNav try disconnecting the cd drive part of it in the luggage area as it uses front speakers when giving directions and if it plays up it will affect both up and down volume levels in the front of the car.

My 4.6 had similar symptoms and it was the coil packs at fault....
