I guessed you can't tap too much on p38s like I have been doing on series rovers for donkey's years, but I'm sure that noise is a relay not doing something it should be.
P38 wont start... does it have heat stroke?

When mine wouldn't start I got as far as disconnecting the leads from the starter motor to remove it. Once I realise someone else had stripped the top bolt in a previous attempt I put it all back together again. It then started no worries. I'd have a crawl underneath and check the connections on your starter motor.

Oh i dont know the starter on my old 4.6 used to get a belt regular from a lump hammer

6 week old battery no drain issues before,get the battery stress tested might say 12v but it might not be enough to turn the starter motor , as mentioned have you tried with jump leads to the battery terminals as well?Hi
Well I didn't think the battery was an issue (only about 6 week old exide type) and had no problems with drain etc since i've owed the vehicle, but had it on charge overnight anyway. Went to it today, all the same (and usual) start up beeps, lights & abs pump noises, but when it comes to the start position on key, I still get that clunk from under drivers seat. If i got the same noise from a starter solenoid, it would give it a tap & hope it would help. Multi meter showing 12.4 across battery.
I realise that alot of the electric biz is under the drivers seat, is there anything worth tapping under there
New battery's can be duff too

It is very likely to be poor connection on one of the leads to the solenoid......

Well put the vecicle on autologic today & it turned out ther was a break in a security link from the bcem to gems. Fault cleared & she started a treat. The noise i was hearing was from the bcem, but no power going through to the gems.
My wife can't understand why a man with electro-phobia like me wants a p38, when all I know about are nuts, bolts, cogs & gears!

Loss of sync, a common problem, get yourself a Syncmate or better still a Lynx or Nanocom so you can read/reset all faults.

Just been out in the vehicle again, and know why I can put up with its "quirky" electrickery bits.... its bloody good to drive. Have been giving chase to a pair of numptys trying a spot of off roading on private land

Nanocom is the best, can be used on any P38, not locked to one vehicle, different engine types are extra if needed, self contained, no laptop needed, leave in the glove box so always there if needed. www.blackbox-solutions.comJust been out in the vehicle again, and know why I can put up with its "quirky" electrickery bits.... its bloody good to drive.
