    discovery1 vs 2 rear crossmembers

The crash cans at the front of the chassis are the same on the D1 and D2. I have a front mount tow bar from Watling Engineering that I got for my D2 and re-used it on my D1. The sub-frame for it fits inside the crash cans. The part numbers are different. So I suppose there is a chance the rear...

    300tdi rear diff swap

Thanks for the info. Seems handy enough then. Would RTV sealant be suitable instead of a gasket? Cheers, Andy

    300tdi rear diff swap

Hi Everyone. I have a 2nd hand rear diff ready to fit and was having a look around for a fitting guide on-line. Could anyone point one out? Am I right in thinking that I have to take the half shafts out to free the diff? Cheers, Andy

Two Square Bars, Under Front Bumper?.

Sounds like the sub frame for the front mount tow bar that Watling Engineers sell. I have this. It has a central receiver and an off set one. There is a hole for a locating pin on the side for the actual hitch part though. You say they don't have any holes. Could the holes be obscured by the...

    Tail gate door

When my TD5 rear door lock failed I was able to open it a few last times by quickly flicking the latch/handle upwards with the tips of my fingers, in quick succession. The last time I got it to work I had my new unit ready to fit so just got stuck into the replacement. Cheers, Andy

Advice needed please.. 300tdi or td5?

I had a TD5 for 4 years, sold it on a whim and then bought a 300tdi over a year ago. The 300 tdi is ok to drive and is very reliable but having seemed non rusty when I bought it, I had to weld on new sills last year for the MOT and have had to do the back corners of the boot floor and the fuel...

    Advice on Welder

I can get a Sealey 130 Super Mig locally for a good price. This looks like it is ready for Co2/Argon gas. It does 30 to 130amps. The Mig Welding site states that this should be good for up to 3mm steel. Will this do if I need to patch the 300 tdi chassis down the line?

Try a new fuel filter. Something similar happened to my car when I stuck veg oil in it. Should sort itself out.

    Advice on Welder

I'm going to buy a welder to have a go at repairing my D1 Sills. I've done a bit of research and am likely going to get a Clarke. This one is a good price but goes down to 35 amps. Is that too high for patching sills? Clarke MIG 145 No-Gas/Gas MIG Welder - Machine Mart It does gas or...

    Discovery Standard Roof Bars?

What's wrong with them? Is the fitting to the side rails poor? Mine have been on the car since I got it. I was going to fit some J bars for a Kayak to them.

    TD5 Newbie - doesn't feel right

Good news on the MAP cleaning. There is also a sensor on the airbox that would be worth cleaning. Also, on my TD5 I adjusted the wastegate rod a little bit. I think I shortened it a couple of turns. I can't remember the ins and outs of it but if you do some digging around on google you...

Can Disco sunroof leaks be cured?

On my previous D2 and current D1 I smeared some black Sikaflex between the sunroof frame and the roof. That has worked in both cases. If you look closely you could see a gap between the frame and the roof in places.

    TD5 Newbie - doesn't feel right

There's a MAP sensor in the manifold that can get gunked up and affect performance. It just needs a spray with contact cleaner to sort out. This made a big difference to my TD5.
