Good idea, thanks. No more holes anywhere thankfully, though definitely some thin spots. Unfortunately it's terminal, but anything to delay the inevitable is good.
Will be waxoyling tomorrow

I am! There have been other patches if welding in the past. I'm just hoping it can get through the next couple of years, at which point I hope to switch to a galv chassis.

Hope someone can help with a simple question. While going over the chassis today with a wire brush in prep for applying treatment, this hole began to appear. This is as big as it got.
Is this major bad news? Or would be a simple weld job? It's near petrol tank so is imagine not. If I was to get...

Been giving the SIIa I've just bought another thorough going over to see what jobs I need to get planned. What do you think on these springs? On the front driver side there are a few small gaps, but the other 3 don't have any.
Do these gaps just lead to a rougher ride, or anything more sinister?!

Fantastic work - the restoration obviously, but also for sharing your progress! It's a real help for me as a complete novice to see how everything fits together.

Off to collect it in the morning. The seller has today taken it for oil changes, put on a new wiper, new sparks, set the carb and checked points - plus he's touched up the white paint on either side of the slot. I think it is going to be a sad moment for him when he bids farewell to it!

So then, I've bought it! Should be collecting at some point towards the end of the week, as soon as all the paperwork is sorted. I'll post some pics when I get it to it's new home.
Hopefully you lot on here are tolerant of lots of stupid questions (which I will no doubt have - after...

So, I went to see it. I took it out for a spin (my first experience behind the wheel of a series). Managed to get it through all it's gears, brake test etc. I had a big smile on my face. That 2.25 petrol engine is impressive. :bounce:
It almost breaks my heart to buy it from the guy selling as...

Just a little hello from North Wales. I'm not an owner as yet, but possibly will be in a few days time as I'm looking at a very promising 2a.
Never owned a Landy before, I'm obviously looking for a baptism of fire :fencing:
Hope to be calling on everyone's expertise in the near future!

So, I think I am close to my first ever Land Rover - a 1970 series 2a, 70k miles, current owner for just under 20 years and 40k miles.
I'm viewing later this week - any top tips for anyone to check? I'll be going through the work that's been done including to the chassis.
I've never even...
