Hope someone can help with a simple question. While going over the chassis today with a wire brush in prep for applying treatment, this hole began to appear. This is as big as it got.
Is this major bad news? Or would be a simple weld job? It's near petrol tank so is imagine not. If I was to get it welded, how much should I be paying?
I'm assuming it would be an MOT fail due to its proximity to structural support - am I fearing the worse or is it justified?

I guarantee that hole will be double that size if not more by the time you get back to the good metal to weld to.

If you planning a chassis in the next few years just plate it.

The rest of the chassis doesn't look to clever, it's quite pitted. I reckon there will be more holes elsewhere. Give it some waxoyl in and out if you want it to last but expect welding for all your MOTS IMO

Good idea, thanks. No more holes anywhere thankfully, though definitely some thin spots. Unfortunately it's terminal, but anything to delay the inevitable is good.

Will be waxoyling tomorrow

I wouldn't waste money on wax oyl the best protection for a chassis in that condition is to spray it with old engine oil and diesel mixed it really gets into the dust and rust....as my old man said good oil seals were the death of a many a good car!!
