Springs - gone or in need of TLC?

Been giving the SIIa I've just bought another thorough going over to see what jobs I need to get planned. What do you think on these springs? On the front driver side there are a few small gaps, but the other 3 don't have any.

Do these gaps just lead to a rougher ride, or anything more sinister?!

I'm by no means an expert, but, I belive they can all be separated, cleaned up greased, and carry on use, however I'm not sure this can be done when they begin separating, as they may not go back in shape after re assembly.
Depending on your budget, new springs arnt too expensive, unless you want parabolics which do start to cost more!

I have had good results with time. patience, paraffin,oil and spray grease.

Jack it up and support on chassis until springs are on full articulation. A bit of work with a wire brush and old screwdriver to loosen things up. Spray with oil/paraffin mix, try and leave overnight. Drive around for a week then repeat. Next time spray well into the leaves with spray grease. I found after 2 or 3 goes with the spray grease the ride was supple and ride height up an inch or more. Do it 3 or 4 times a year for good results.

What divide said but when you drive it try giving it a bit of weekly. Before I got my parabolic mine were a bit like that I dosed them with wd40 then diesel and old oil were still hard and uneven so I gave it a good 40 mph down a pot holed track and that did the trick....then the bearing in the top of the steering column went but that's a different story!

Seconded - GB springs are dogs bollocks and Paul is very helpful. Yf you go for paras on an 88 though do get some slightly stiffer gas shocks or it is a bit too bouncy...

Any recommendations? I'm also planning on GB springs for my 88 and want to take advantage of any lift/articulation increase - adding extended brake lines too

previous owner fitted rocky mountian para's and shocks, ride is deffo better than my old s3 pickup, that had britparts on the back and originals on the front
