TD4 won't rev over 4K??

Hi FB,
I done mine from Rusty's fred, had to do a small mod to make it fit but does make a difference.
Yes they are only available from beamer dealers, when I approached the man in the posh suit at the spares table in the dealership, I waited until the smart young lady in the posh frock had paid and asked him for a breather showing him a print of Rusty's part no's.
Oh that's the fourth one this week he say's which model is this one going on?
A freelander says I. We sell quite a few to the LR boys nowadays says he.

Got the impression word is getting about in both the Beamer and Freelander communities that this mod is an engine saver?

Go for it and fit one then forget it - at least until the next service interval when all it needs is a wipe over and inspection of the valve.

TD John.

John... it's a plan then.. as said before, I've had 3 TD4's now and never come accross this filter nor has one been fitted at service according to my service sheets!.. the first one had 85K on it when it went.... so may have been well done!..
Anyway, keeping this car for a bit (as I don't know what to get next!!).. so will sort it out now out of warranty... For what a fuel pump replacement would have cost me at LR may be £400 all in?... I can do a number of mod's / upgrades...
Great!.. if it ever stops raining I'll get on with it!!!... Cheers... John:rolleyes:

Well.. that's fixed it... new pump (and filter) and it's charging into the red... also cleaned the EGR valve out and took the pipe of so it's not working now....
No smoke on start up... so could have been something to do with the pressure drop from the old pump...
Will fit BMW breather and have a play... My be with synergy 2 unit...
Thanks for all your help on this one!!!!

I luv a happy ending.....:)

Going gud now.. but having disconnected the vaccume pipe from the EGR valve.. when the engines running (but you can't hear it as much) and when you stop it for a few seconds afters.. the valve sounds like a duck! It must be bouncing on the seat.... will have to blank it off... anyone else experianced this??

Hi FB,
Are U sure the quacking is coming from the valve??
Some others have experienced a parping, thrumming or duck noise after either just disconnecting the EGR or after fitting the bypass (no valve).
Ours has the bypass and sometimes we can faintly hear Donald under the bonet after the engine is switched off.
I favour the notion that it is something to do with the vacuum modulator valve that drives the EGR (other end of the blanked off pipe)??
Does not happen (not noticable) all the time so I tend to ignore it - could have been there all along but we were not listening for it??
Fink Willo and some others in the know had some thoughts on its origins when the EGR fred was in full swing.
Maybe Ming could get Porkey to have a look for us, sound like a right teknicle one.
Where's Donald??

The egr bypass & synergy 2 box are two of the best modifications out there for the Td4. Also start using Millers powersport 4 diesel additive as recommended by roverron but use double the stated dose. Gives a noticeable performance/economy boost & keeps those pricey injectors clean.

I remember having read something about this unwinding (thicking) noise when the engine is stopped. I brought it up in the first place I believe and at that time none ever heard it, now I'm glad (in a way) I'm not the only one. Anyway what I remember is that it's due to the solenoid down in the front of the engine, where the vacuumtube towards the egr-valve starts just next to it there's another vacuumtube arriving with the vacuum. Blocking off this arriving tube should clear that problem. (Can't remember who but someone added a picture of the exact location in his post). I had the intention of doing this the first timed I'd hear that noise again but so far negative, so I won't bother especially as I think the undercarriage will have to be removed. (And as I'm a little lazy .......:D:D:D)

Sorry to resurect an old thread. Does the FL2 have a Rev Limiter that cuts in at 4K unless the engine is warm?
I only ask as it cut in (just) when I was pulling away cold, then when engine was warm I tested it and all was well.

(I am new to FL2)

Probably. Our Kuga won't rev much above 4K when cold. It will rev to the limiter when hot. I suspect the EDC limits overboost while cold. It's not wise to rev a cold too hard as it can damage bearings.

Thx for that.
I was in First gear putting my belt on and left my foot on the pedal a bit too long - took me by suprise :)

All sorts of interesting limitations are added to modern ECUs these days. Our VW Tiguan wouldn't rev above 2.5K if it was in gear and the clutch was down. Presumably this is to reduce transmission damage from high torque while pulling away. Once the clutch pedal way up, full RPM became available.
