Hi

I have bought an N type plug in electrics kit. It hasn't come with the upgrade relay. Does anybody know the spec/ part no and the best place to get one from.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tonyt37,
I just fitted the N & S wiring to mine and I used one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flasher-Unit-12V-4-Pin-126-Watt-Trailer-Towing_W0QQitemZ130288426393QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item130288426393&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
Only £5.65 inc. p&p - Unit looks well made but has a slower flash rate then standard unit, works trailer indicator in dash ok - just remove original relay and plug in.
Hope it helps. TD John

Cheers for that John. I will get one ordered. I fitted one to my other FL a few years ago but it was the scotchlok and buzzer type. Thought i'd do it properly on this one.

Hi Guys

I fitted the electrics today. Plugged the relay in. Everything worked o.k. Unplugged the trailer board and retested. The trailer sysmbol still flashes. Should the trailer light on the dash flash when the trailer is not attached? Enybody any ideas?

Thanks

yes - its the electrics that make it operate, for some reason. Mine used to do that.

Hi MHM. The wiring was plug and play. It came with a Dixon Bate towbar. I changed the relay for one that I bought seperately.

No point in having it if it flashes all the time. It's supposed to flash only when the extra current for the additional bulb is sensed. Could be the wrong value.

Hi Tony37,
Numbers add up like this;
When indicating "solo" - 21w front + 21w rear + 5w side repeater - trailer indicator flashes 'once' when you start indicating and no more.
When indicating "towing" - 21w front + 21w rear + 5w side repeater + 21w on trailer - trailer indicator flashes every 'flash' when you start indicating.

If the trailer indicator flashes all the time when solo check the bulbs in the indicator lamps, if you have a larger load (say a 10w in the side repeater or extra repeaters) then the trailer indicator may flash permanently when solo. Flasher load margin should be around 10W+ extra to operate the trailer indicator.

Flasher Unit is also used for hazard warning - 2 x 21w front + 2 x 21w rear + 2 x 5w side repeaters + 2 x 21w on trailer - total of 126w max flasher load.
If your trailer has more than one indicator per side then add up the total and get a bigger 4 pin unit (e.g. 148w or larger?)

If all of your lamps check out - chances are the flasher unit is over sensitive - could try for a replacement?
TD John

Cheers John. The relay is the same as the one you fitted. You obviously don't have the same problem. I will see if they will exchange it.

Tony

it is quite likely the trailer symbol flashes once, it will only continue to flash when the relay senses extra load for trailer board, additional lights etc, it tells you the circuit is good, if you use the hazard fashers the trailer symbol also lights up.
