Hi

I'm getting a clonk when taking up drive from the front end of my TD4 even though I'm running without VCU/propshaft so suspect the IRD is on its way out :(

Looking around, I have found that Freelanderspecialists.com have them at 650 + post.
Has anyone had an IRD from them before?
Any problems?

I was going to use one from Bell, but although its 35 cheaper, its only a 6 month warrenty, whereas the freelanderspecialist one is 12 month...

Cheers

could be the lower mount that bolts the car to the ird has 2 bushes i have a noise the same and have worked out its my mount bushes have play and im just trying to sort the money out to buy a poly bushes

Thanks guys - I'll take a look.

Matt - how much play is in your bottom tie rod bush?
I've just discovered can move my engine by hand and can see the bottom bush moving about 5 mm front to back...

yeah i can move mine by hand aswell its a bush and if i use a bar from underneath i can make mine knock which is why i no mine shot lol

if your going to get a recon ird why not try bell

Cause Bell only have a 6 month warranty - the other place have 12 months, but is £35 more expensive - a no-brainer in my opinion but I wondered if anyone had actually brought one from freelanderspecialist.com

I have seen the company advertise but I would take a bell one anyday and would have done wen i needed one but i got my IRD for free so couldn't turn it down lol

Longer warranty means they have more confidence in their work. Considering the effort to change it after buying it... Buts that's just my thinking.

It's one of them things tho bell do great work with Vcu so why would there work on IRD be any less ok a little less warranty and I see why people like it but Kia do 7 yr warranty but ford sell more cars with less warranty lol

Swings and round about a really

We tend to think of Ford as a UK brand in the UK and forget about the merkin bit. ;)

The way I see it the longer the warranty, the more it's going to cost them in repairs on average. So they either put up the price a bit to offset the collective costs of repairs or know they've done a better job in the first place. Yer takes yer pick I guess. There's always the chance of an unlocky one. Mines had an engine and gearbox replaced.

You can only see the smallest amount of movement by using hand pressure on a new bush, can you imagine how much movement there is with a couple of thousand foot pounds of torque going through that bush? ;)
