Hi…I have a ‘W’ reg Freelander 1.8 and I can’t get either of the back seats to go down. You can pull the leaver on the back of the seats but it doesn’t release the mechanism. Does anybody know how I get to the mechanism to sort it out?
Cheers

Hi Thanks for this but I’m not sure this gives me the answer. I can lift the two catches on the back of the seats which are still sprung loaded but they don’t release the mechanism so the seats won’t fold down. I have taken the fabric of the back of one seat but it’s just reveals a solid back with no access to the mechanism. I can’t access it from the side because the seats don’t fold down. I’m not sure that I have explained this very well but basically I need to be able to get to the mechanism from the front or back of the seat without damaging the seat.
Cheers

ffs storm mutt write a bit smaller will yer spay the under catch wiff wd40 and slam it down a few times make sure yer carpet is not fouling it. . . . . .werked for me:)

Its easy enough. There's a plastic trim that goes around the back of the seat you can get a flat screw driver under the trim and lever it up off the back ,the trim is attached to the face cover cloth, should most likely be the same for leather.you can then peel the the cover away from the foam.
You will have to remove the headrest to get all the way over to the lever mechanism, and you might have to open the torx bold on the back hinge to get enough slack on the cover to lift it over the top...this is getting very long winded as usual.
By this stage you should be able to open the lever.

I ordered a new HWE100730 LH REAR SEAT LATCH ASSY | Freelander 1996>: Interior | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series from my local lr dealer and gave up waiting after 3 or more weeks, but had to buy it in the end because by week 2 I had them make it a priority order. It was the single seat and I like having the easy access to the rear without reaching over so I never fitted it.

I'm not much good at simple description. Please let us know how you get on.
