Early june i'll be a Dad! As the freelander doesn't have a switch to isolate the passenger airbag, if i remove it and get one of the cubby boxes and handles instead (fitted to those without the airbag) then i could fit a child seat in the front.

Would the airbag light stay on all the time?
If so would a dealer be able to reset it?

Am i talking stupid (ussually!!) or is this a posibilty?

Ian.

That's a question for a specialist as this is a safety item and incorrect information could be fatal.

(And advanced congratulations already)

i used to have to remove drivers air bags to change the steering wheel. dunno know how many i did in total but it must have been up around a hundred or so.
any way all i did was disconnect the battery and then go fer a smoke and a coffee. go back and remove it about 20-30 mins later. this gives the capacitor time to discharge thus allowing removal without looking like i'd been trying to burn bushes out. as fer the light....... i took the bulb oot

Sounds like baby in the back may be the least hassle!

Does anyone know if the freelander has these "isofix" mounts? I wouldn't have a clue what they looked like if i saw them!)

Freelander seats should accomodate most child/baby seats. isofix points:confused:

You cant disable the airbag, no blanks available. If you do, the SRS light will remain on

How did we ever survive without them? Nanny state rule

Asked our main dealer the same question, eg removal or fitting of a switch, and the answer was absolutly not ! We were lucky enough to find a used es spec that had been specified without the airbag from new. Officially that is the only way. Obviously there will be insurance implications for "modifications" not approved by manufacturer. Another thing to check before the big day is that the seat belts are long enough in the rear for your chosen rear facing child seat. Good luck with your new addition. This might help you.

Thanks Guys,

I thiink i'll go for the easy option and leave the airbag in!

Anyone recommend a good baby seat? there's so many around it's hard to decide on what's best!

Just have a look about, most will fit FL seats.

Plus when the baby has outgrown the seat you will prob be selling or passing the seat on to someone else 18 months down the line. Then you'll be looking at the more upright versions

Some are way over priced for what they are, go for the less expensive ones with full 5 harness points. Pad out with foam under the cover for extra security/comfort especially aroung the head area.

Hope you got the Land Rover pram to go with it LOL
