I have the opportunity to change all 4 tyres on the Td4,
and with the mileage we do they will possibly be the last set
we purchase for her, I have short listed 2 options,,

what one would you choose??
£20 difference between them, so not a worry

Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S G012 (215/65 R16 H (98))

Or

General Grabber UHP (215/70 R16 H (100))

Or

Something Else completely..

the only reason for the size difference is that I want to get them
from one place and they don't do the Generals in 215/65 R16

Thank you kindly for your help..

AT and UHP are different types of tyres

What are you looking for in a tyre

Do you ever go off road?
If you do then how often?

If the answer to off roading is no forget about AT tyres cos your probably going to waste money on fuel and road noise is louder.
Then there is the performance issues to think about
I wouldn't want to do lots of motorway miles on AT's

For AT I myself have GG AT's so thats what I recommend

Before them I had Goodyear Wranglers M&S

Pirelly Scorpions are popular and good but more expensive

Some very scary grass around here, the odd dirt track,
but not really off roading as such,
could be a possibility in the future though,
mostly round town with the odd duel carriageway,
sometimes go mad up to 65 or 70,,

Snow in the winter is a consideration..

Both fair very equal in the road tests and the euro fuel & wet
the Geo's are slightly louder but only 4 decibels (dB)

I was hoping someone will have fitted either or both the makes and could advise.

I've Pirellis on at the moment. But I also have a set of geolanders that I use for laning. I find the geolanders quite a bit louder on the road.

I have decided and had the work done now, but I have a little info to share,
the euro rating for the Noise, Fuel & grip in the wet are based as follows

The noise rating;
If the noise rating is above 73 then in about a years time ish
your local tyre place will no longer be able to sell them to you..

Fuel rating;
The difference between A & G is approximately,
for every 650 miles you will use approximately 6.5 litres more fuel
(1.5 gallons) on a G compared to an A..

Grip in the wet;
The difference between A & G is approximately 4 car lengths
With C being about the average..

The only one that is a real concern to me is the stopping in the wet,
as the amount of mileage I drive in the Freelander is pretty low
These are a C rating, and the ones on my BMW that cost £165
a tyre are a B rating, less than 1/2 a car length difference..

I am happy these are the correct choice for me at the moment,
and also open up the possibility of some green laneing as well..

I will update on the noise question,
once I have a few miles under my belt.

Here is what the look like..

Not over chunky but plenty of grip..
I will get the rear wheel done when I can afford it..

I have Geolanders on mine, and leave them on all the time.......I think they are a brilliant all round tyre, and loads of grip when green laning. Also good in snow & rain. :)

Just had a look at the ratings, in 205/80/16 as I have....F fuel, C wet, 74db......but 75db in 215/65/16....seems a bit strange.

Well I am a bit of a poser on the quiet,,:D

Like a bit of colour coding and matching things up,,

I have the badges all round in black and silver too,
just remembered them writing this..

I would love to find a rear door Freelander badge on Silver and black..
Any ideas..??
