having listened to you guys - thought I would have a go without seals.

I found I could not remove completely the top bolt, so a new seal there isnt much good (might have to remove the complete unit).
An open ended 11mm spanner is needed to undo the top compression bolt (think Oil filter - i is similar).
I did not (as recomended) touch the bottom drain screw, although it might be a good idea to replace with a bolt, for future use - a new drain screw is about £3.50.

Here is a pictorial guide.......

Well done MHM - good pics as well.

So, you didn't find any muck in there then?? :p:D:D

I must be the luckiest boy ever i looked at the sedimenter and there was a white plastic thumbscrew. so i turned it and it came undone then all the crud ran out then i put it back in :) job done 5 mins at most

so you did'nt take the advice "not to touch it"? ....lol, gonna be doing mine today now ive read all this..but will remove the whole thing, that way it can be cleaned thoroughly.

I did mine last week, touched the plastic screw and it felt as though it would break so left it alone and removed the whole thing, loads off gunge and crap inside it. I used the original seal as it looked good and I hadn't bought a new one:p just make sure you put the seal back on dead straight as I didn't and it conked out a mile down the road. realised what I'd done, sorted it and runs better than ever. Even better now I've had the intercooler off and cleaned that.:D

intercooler next for me :) i wouldnt have toched the plastic screw but it looked really clean and i know the bloke that had it before me was very particular :)

cleaned out my intercooler last week, used white spirits, half filled it, bunged it, left for half hr....shook it like mad..emptied it...was black as fook, repeated until clear....jet washed (from a bit of distance) outside of it, dried out, refitted...can notice the difference straight away, did egr removal prior to that.....did'nt know there was so many things to do with the disco !!! blimey.......nxt is to fix rear elec windows....so off to buy a soldering iron :) i managed to remove the intercooler without taking the fan housing off !! bit of persuation...lol

Right Stupid question time folks, My 300tdi Disco doesnt seem to rev very high, max 3500rpm, So one of the things I checked before reading this thread was undo to the Plastic drain on the sedimenter, nothing came out other than a very small drip or two of clean looking doozle, so thinking it must be full of **** I poked a long thin screw driver up the drain, it went all the way in a still nothing came out!! WTF??? So got me thinking?? Went to what was left of the old disco I was breaking at the time and took the plastic drain out of that one and doozle ****ed out all over the floor?? Anyone got any bright ideas why mine doesnt have anything coming out of it with out the drain plug in??

Sounds to me like it's blocked up inside.

Use an 11mm ring spanner to remove the bowl and check/clean inside it.

yep intercooler for me next too, took inlet manifold off and done that was real bad

Alright Mark, how's it going? Intercooler id defo worth doing, not a massive difference but you can feel and hear a difference.

Anyhow I see that Dersingham has been postponed a couple of weeks.

****in stealers! Went in to get sealing rings......
Sorry sir - yu have to buy 20 of one and 10 of the other!!!!!!wot do they think i am doing - servicing the British army? Anyone know where i can get 1 of each?
Paddocks do them in singles. Also if the stealer did the job regularly, they would have them in and sell them in singles.;)
