does "open up engine" mean lifted the bonnet ?

you dont want to be trying to run it in that state, good time to learn how to take your head off and check the state of the gasket

dont do anything untill your sure you've got the right tools, parts and the time to do it

or get that nice bloke orf ebay to do it cos he's down your way somewhere

yea lifted up bonnet,my bad. i took head off i think but not sure what gasket looks like my bookaint very good.

i can understand the words i can't quite understand the order that you are using them in

you saying you have allready taken off the head ?

can you post a picture of what your engine bay looks like now ?

hrrm not so sure you should be taking the head off if you dont know what the gasket looks like!!

The gasket is the flat seal which is placed between then head and the block. If you have taked the head off you should see it still stuck to the head or block. If it has blown then you will see where it has broken allowing compression from the cylinder to blow out to the other holes in the block.

Not the most technical of explainations but I hope it helps!

that's just the rocker cover you have had off

read this and it'll say how to remove the head (it's for a 300 but it's basically the same)

300TDI cylinder head removal - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

you'll have to join the forum before you see the pictures

but you might want to get someone in to help cos if you carry on taking bits off without knowing what they are you'll just end up driving a Saxo
