Hi Guys,

Little Problem driving normally when all of a sudden it was almost like the engine lost its power and kicking out a shed load of smoke from the back white ish, specially when i rev'ed low power no fluid loss or oil loss before i hear the dreaded words head gasket :) and she is not over heating either.

i shoved a bottle of red x in which sorted it out a little bit still a bag of spuds when its cold but seem to improved it a little still have the smoke.

i am thinking maybe an injector blocked any other ideas before i start soaking my injectors and taking a wire brush to them or any other tests i can do.

Really dont want to pay for a mechanic to come out if i can repair it my self.

cheers

See how much end movement you have on your turbo, just take of the pipe that comes from the filter. Side play is ok but no back forward movement.

blue smoke is oil ,white smoke is water or unburned diesel ,you can check turbo by removing pipe from turbo to intercooler ,check play in turbine shaft and run engine with pipe off excess oil passing will be evident ,you can uncdo each injector in turn faulty one will stop smoke and not effect running of engine once nuts loose ()keep your fingers away from diesel )never wire brush injector nozzles

so if i undo the injector a little the smoke will stop will it make the engine run better once i found the correct knackered injector ?

lol my bad

I think it's subjective though. One man's white smoke is another man's blue

:D

just thinking when i crack i wont be able to see the back end should the engine noise change and do i take the injector off or just crack the nut say half a turn

I was having a major white smoke issue and pretty no power at all, changed the injectors and the problem went away. Though I am running mine on a bit a home brew mix.

My advise would be to pick up a set of second hand injectors, soak them in some redex for a few days, then change each injector one at a time, starting the engine after each one

well tried to remove the injector could not even get the thing to move :( im a handfisted git had a feeling i was going to snap it :) any one live near port talbot that could come and give me a hand maybe on the weekend so don't want to pay this mechanic

You don't have to remove the injectors. Just crack the fuel pipe and keep some rag handy to catch the fuel that leaks out when you start the engine.

What do you mean you 'can't get them out' mine were stuck fast and I managed to do it and I'm a girl and 5 months pregnant:eek::D

What I found best, was to screw a bolt with some nuts on into the return line hole, then use it as a levering point. Be very careful to lever straight at 90 degrees to the engine block, or you'll bend the studs for the securing plate.

But if you just want to check if one is knackered then do what Richard Martin has suggested

When mine came out the heads were covered in thick black gunky crap. though they're not damaged so I'll clean them up for the next time, probably in about 6 months or so

If you really want to remove an injector then for a few days before hand squirt some release oil (Plugas or something, not WD40) around them so it runs down between the injector and the head. On the day you want to remove them run the engine up to temperature before you start and then as Zan79 says some careful evening leverage should help.
