Just doing similar myself, but I used the SMD strip, I found it had a better beam angle (wider) when I used it in my caravan.
That and got a 10W LED flood to go on the back, just making a voltage converter for it cos it needs 48V DC, but I got it for nowt.

Ive just bought some of those smd strips=very impressed, going to use them for my tent.
 
Looks great, is there much drain on the battery running them? I'm shortly off on a trip to Morocco and thought I might erect an awning with something similar under the awning. Don't want to install duel batteries if I can avoid it.
