:welcome2:Hi all, ive bought a freelander 2000 reg td4 automatic. The previous owner replaced the ird and put normal gear box oil in the freelander drives perfect apart from reverse and will only go into reverse if the oil is heated to a certain temperature and takes 2 people to get it into reverse by one outside the car and one in going through the selector, its a cracking vehicle apart from this...any ideas on what the fault could be and how i could fix it would be much appreciated!

you dont have to dtrip box just remove t/c housing ,but original post had would drive eventually dislodged clutch band doesnt give that fault

can we have a little more info please ? is it a problem getting it into reverse, or is it a problem with being in reverse with no drive ?

if it is a selection problem, am I right in guessing the person inside operates the selector whilst the one outside fiddles with the selector mech ? If so sounds like a cable selector fault as per jamesmartin.

if it goes in but no drive then again, as per jamesmartin, sounds like the wrong bolt has been undone by mistaking it for the level filler plug and the reverse clutch band has fallen off inside the gearbox.
