101 power steering conversion

I plan to fit power assisted steering on a 101 FC. I have heard that this has been done by people before using a LDV box. I welcome any advice or links to web pages that show how best to do this.

John Win may like to know that I plan to use this vehicle as a working truck to pick up substantial weights. I collect Used Cooking Oil from pubs and restaurants (currently in Renault Master van) and can easily get 1,600 litres in a day. But parking in tight spaces in a main shopping street with a heavy 101 is not fun. My wrists are also a bit shaky already so I need PAS ASAP!

No idea on 101 steering. Is it anything like the rrc setup?

I helped a friend to put a RRC PAS system on his 101...
We cut off the front bit of the chassis from the Rangey complete with the box,
then rotated it so that the input shaft pointed towards where the 101 steering wheel is,
Then we welded it on place, and used an MGB steering column. Works a treat, and soundy engineered (obviously you can't bodge around with steering)
Also fitted 300Tdi and 5 speed box.
I'll get some photos, but can't up-load till next week cos I'm off on my hols. 'hope this helps.

Please dont.... If you cant stand it then dont have a series!!!!!!!!

Didn`t Chris Perfect used to do kits to put power steering on series Landrovers - they weren`t cheap but they were easy. He might be worth a ring to talk through the options on a 101 ?

Is a 101 a 'series'?

I am not into preserving old vehicles, but I am interrested in using them as working machines if they suit a purpose.
My 101 has 53K km on the clock, so its hardly used. But I am 62 and my wrists are showing wear, and I find it hard to grip a steering wheel. I have fitted a steering handle to my other vehicles. So power steering on the 101 will be essential for me, and also for other drivers (female) who will be using the 101 in a way that involves a lot of main shopping street parking.

I also plan to fit a rear camera.

MGB steering column fits a treat..




Pas box and front bit of chassis from a RRC grafted on . Simples.

If your going down that route. I have an RRC that I'm breaking. Got steering box, drop arm, track bar, drag bar, PAS pump, res and pipework. And the entire column. PM me if you need bits.

I can fix you up with an MGB steering column too - my bro breaks them for spares.

Get the 101 wheel back on that column if it fits

Chopping up my rrc today so if you need the part of the chassis that the steering box fits on let me know. Don't want nothing for it.

101 steering wheel doesn't fit :doh:, at least it's got the same 70's British Leyland family genes.
