Smokey!

As I'm now using the Rangie as my daily drive (now that I've got the V5 back and have been able to tax it....), I'm going to be asking a few questions !!!

First one - when I boot the loud pedal, whether it be from a stand still or from say 50-70, I get a huge cloud of black smoke dump out of the back - makes the Rangie look like the bastard child of the Red Arrows..... Although if I accelerate slowly, I don't get the smoke...

I'd heard that fitting the powerbox might generate a little bit of smoke, but it looks like a battleship is steaming into port....!

Any ideas?

Common thing, mine does it too although I dont think I would use the term 'battleship steaming into port'. Make sure your air filter isnt clogged though and change it if you think it looks old. Also if you are really worried about give the intercooler a clean/flush through.

It is a common thing though when you have a powerchip.

I must admit, I think the smoke is a little 'excessive' - I'll change the air filter though - and when I find the intercooler, I'll give that a clean - what's the best way to do that?

Have you got RAVE yet so you can see how to remove the intercooler??

There are different ways to clean the intercooler, have a look on google, my friend has used this method on his Disco...

Intercooler Cleaning

He followed those instructions to a tee and it was basically just as the page says, full of black oily crap and a good clean out sorted things.

I've got RAVE, but its an ISO file, so haven't had time to drop the image onto a CD yet... I'll find the time eventually (if the missus doesn't find other things for me to do!!)

Thanks the for the help - I'll be giving the Rangie a blast down to Dorset over the weekend to 'test' it out properly - hopefully I won't find anymore issues!

Good luck, make sure you have breakdown cover sorted 'just incase!'!

I wouldn't be too worried about the excess smoke though as long as its just black, it will be a little reminder not to go booting it constantly

Well, I'm back - the Rangie performed admirably - everytime someone got too close to the back of the car or was showing off with a convertible, they got a blast from the smoke generator!
