MOT Q's Battery strap - SRS Light Failure or?

The battery insecure is an advisory for now, however if a battery cover is fitted then it isnt possible to tell whether the battery is secure or not, and testers are not allowed to dismantle vehices inorder to test them.

In the drivers footwell behind the outboard cover there is a white multi plug, when I was tracing the wireing for another fault I traced it to this, when I cleaned it up and put it together my srs light went out, since I have not seen a wireing diagram I could have been lucky but that was a year ago and never had the problem since (touch wood) as for the battery it should have a clamp, your bound to find something that fits at your nearest breakers, if its not an mot failure it should be (nothing should be loose in the engine bay)

Odd that, the construction and use regs require the battery to be secure so you would think it would be in the MOT:confused:

The C and U regs said you had to have a Cat from 1993. But the MOT did not check for one til now. Mot is getting a bit stupid now. Steering, brakes and suspension yes. But all these other silly regs are getting out of hand. Think it's jobs for the boys, regulation for regulation sake, these days.

Always been nervous about unsecured batteries. A company I used to work for had a mini van, the battery was behind the drivers seat under the floor. Under heavy braking one day it slid forward and a metal bar went with it, dropped onto the terminals and the whole lot exploded covering the driver in acid and molten metal. He was not a pretty sight when he came out of hospital:eek: These days he would have been in line for a big wad of damages on no win no fee:rolleyes:

Yes Keith battery should be secure. Was thinking more of the sweeping Euro nonsense they are trying to bring in. Brakes suspension and steering i will live with but no vehicle should ever be failed for having a number plate bulb blown. Or as my sons father in law did in Spain, have his car failed because the side steps and rear window tints were not origonal equipement. Having to remove the tints and have his steps signed off by the main dealer at a cost. That is a bloody nonsense.

The Spanish don't like the English LOL We have the same rules but the test stations are reasonably flexible as they are not part of garages but independant:)

New srs bulbs fitted and found out how it deliver messages but there's a fault i need looked at when i find someone with a fcr near Inverness.
When upper bulb is blown the light stays on
When lower bulb is blown in flashes on & off
When both bulbs works but there's a fault it pulses, newer goes out (my situ now)

New battery strap made and battery secured
New cable from alt to positive fitted now got better charging 14.4 - 14.6V (prev 13.6V)
New cable from body to negative as well

SRS sorted with autologic, there was a fault stored due to low voltage at some point:eek:

Big thanks to my local Land Rover specialist/indie who quickly cleared the stored fault.
