Hi there people, right where do i start?

I got my L322 Vogue 4.4 2003 few weeks ago (cheap) it was saying air suspension inactive.. The motor was always at ride height, not sunk l;ow and never as been… always at ride height!

So a mate of mine put his fault code on it which came up with two codes

116: Reservior pressure static when filling

103: To much energy for regulation needed, front axle

once wiped it seems to be working, and I've used the car for around 20min drive after and it all seems to still ok..

But do i need a new pump?

Any help would be great :)

Thanks Alex

:welcome2:

First thing to check would be for leaks on the front air struts...

What those codes are saying is the system is struggling to raise the front in sufficient time hence the 'too much energy' code...

That's the firs thing....that being said, if the compressor has been feeding a leak, it may need a rebuild or replacement as it will have worn itself out!

Soapy water in a spray bottle on the air struts may show a tiny leak!

Ok i will check this out, but if it was leaking would it not go down over night? as this stays at this level all the time… don't even sink over night?

Maybe not....

The air bladders fold over themselves and sometimes seal the leaks until the bladders start moving as the vehicle moves along allowing air out of the bladders which the poor compressor has to keep up with filling the tank which is emptying trying to keep the front level.

Did you clear the codes and have they come back?? if They didn't and the vehicle works fine...they could be old codes that the Previous Owner didn't clear out of the ECU...

This is the height that it sits at all the time

Tidy looking motor (personally not keen on the alloys - but they are in good condition....PS the ride would be better on smaller rims!)

Check your ride heights against the attached (do some maths if your rim size isn't on the list)...but looks OK maybe a tad higher than I'd expect but that could be because of the rim/tyre package giving an optical illusion...

The reems are awful haha I hate them I have a set of 19 inch over finch alloys coming but till then these will have to do.. 22inch are just not a bit of me... Thanks for your help I get on to it... If it's a new pumped needed, are they as scary as people make out to be? I mean to buy??

I fitted one of these kits about 2 months ago , its really easy especially as I have lpg so the pump isn't buried below the spare tyre. Its the best £25 ive spent on ebay .Yes it is the same (wabco) pump as the A6 allroad. I fiited one because I was fed up of having to have the suspension reset when ever it got really cold and the pump (having a worn piston ring) couldn't raise the suspension quick enough before the computer said No.
Cheers Glen.

Just to add a little more doubtto your issue i was getting exactly the same faults.

I thought it was the pump but mine turned out to be the control valve in the rear drivers arch. It controls the airflow through the system and opens and closes as required. Mine was getting stuck open.

I'll see if i can find a diagram or part number. You might want to check that its much cheaper than a pump.

This be the part. theres a few variations so if it is that worth checking the part number on yours:
Ebay page...

Hi all,

I have a 52 plate TD6, I have always had the air susp. inactive message on ever since ive had this motor. I took it to somebody with a diagnostic computer for the range rover he cleared all the codes and everything seemed to be working ok. Two months down the line I have got the same message again on my dash board. if i take the spare wheel out and start the engine i can hear the compressor working, the controls inside the car are saying that is in ride height but the inhibit light is on and i cant get it off, so my suspension is just stuck in ride height. I personnaly think its a ride height sensor. Has anyone got any ideas and if so where to start on repairing this fault.

Thank you
